Buhari's government is derailing in all ramifications, Nigerians are worried - PDP

National leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP yesterday took a swipe at President Muhammadu Buhari over his appointment of new Service Chiefs and National Security Adviser , saying that his government is derailing in all ramifications.

In a statement released by PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, the party said it is premature to celebrate on the new service chiefs while urging Buhari to be careful with some of his aides and members of his party, All Progressives Congress, APC that were capable of derailing his government.

PDP warned the president not to allow his government to be taken over by what it termed, needless showmanship, just as it said that the people would not judge him by such measures, but would be assessed on the extent to which he addressed critical issues of governance for which he was voted into power.

Metuh said, “Perhaps, we may need to draw Mr. President’s attention to the growing concern that under his watch democratic institutions are no longer free.

While activities of the National Assembly have been disrupted, the nation’s electoral body has lost its independence due to the appointment of an Acting Chairman that is publicly known to have very strong relationship with your good self and key members of your party. We have also seen flagrant disregard of court orders

“We also wish to bring to your notice, Mr. President that Nigerians are now agitated that this government has failed to hit the ground running as it promised.

They are worried that the President who promised to unveil his cabinet two weeks after his inauguration in May, has, two months after, not been able to decide on key appointments such as ministers, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), a Chief of Staff and advisers in key sectors of the economy.”

“They are worried by the drifting of government business in ministries, departments and agencies due to the absence of political heads vested with coordinating of important policies, which are now in tatters and taking its toll on the economy as indicated in the terrifying crippling of foreign and domestic investments and harrowing retrogression in the capital market which has continued to lose billions of naira since May 29th.

“Instead of engaging in pointless propaganda, the APC and the Presidency should be more concerned about the decline in the economy with the continued fall in the value of the naira which has descended from under N200 to the dollar they inherited in May to all time low of N238 even in the face of the President’s promise to bring it to same value with the US Dollar.

  2. The only thing i'm worried about is that Buhari is appointing Awusa (Hausa Fulani) to virtually all important positions, ignoring other groups. That's disappointing.

  3. To be honest Mr Metuh, Lai Mohammed was right about you. You need to visit him for lessons on being an Opposition party spokesman.
It is not by speaking everyday o.
When Buhari didn't appoint anybody you said he was slow, the few appointments made were lopsided. Now he has fired your PDP Moles in the government house, you are busy ranting instead of re-strategizing.
You said democracy is being eroded, how? National assembly elections were held without the president interfering, in PDP's time would this not have been a family affair solution with a nonentity as senate president?
Shebi the senate will have to approve the INEC chairman? why you come dey fret everyday like this.
Show say u go small school and stop behaving like a fish-brain now?

  4. This guy, Metuh appears to be jobless! His comments are too banal and always expected. We are becoming weary of this colourless and sterile attempts that lead to nothingness. We thought the days of the Okupes and Abatis are long forgotten.

  6. Nigerians must realise that they now have brainless rogues and thieving experts as opposition,so their utterances should not surprise any morally sound and ethically upright Nigerian.

  7. This is going to be our greatest problem, not paying attention to the PDP, remember they know the business more than we do. If we refuse them the power to check mate the current government, then we are heading for doom cos as far as i am concerned, this current administration is not yet ready to govern.

    2. One thing is for sure, party is not our problem but individuals, bad eggs that have also infiltrated the APC. As we speak now, PDP in now far better than APC cos one thing u should understand is that bad eggs does not stay with the loosing side in Nigerian politics.

  8. I am not sure Chief Olisah Metuh got Nigerians' mandate to speak on their behalf. I must orchestrate it loud and clear that, I, as a Nigerian, is not complaining as reported by PDP megaphone. In as much as I will not be in support of an administration without opposition, PDP should be critical and analytical about their statements. PDP should stop using Panadol for someone else's headache.
