TRAGEDY: Tanker crushes FRSC boss, family in Osun

Tragedy struck on Wednesday as a petrol tanker which lost control ran over the car conveying the Coordinator, Federal Road Safety Corps Special Marshal Programme in Osun State, Chief S. O. Adewale, his wife and another occupant.

Adewale died on the spot but his wife and the other occupant of the car, who some said was the deceased’s son, who suffered varying degrees of injuries, were rushed to the hospital.
Adewale was said to be going back to Ife, where he resided, from Owo, Ondo State, when the accident occurred.

The special marshal was said to have parked his car beside the main road at Owena market in Osun State to buy some few things from the market.
But an eyewitness told our correspondent that the fuel tanker, which was said to have suffered a break failure, lost control and ran over the car.

The deceased was an anchor of a popular weekly road safety programme on Osun State Broadcasting Corporation and was always at the forefront of road safety awareness.

The Sector Commander of the FRSC in Osun State, Mr. Mohammed Husaini, when contacted, confirmed the accident on the telephone to our correspondent.

The sector commander said, “I was told that he stopped at Owena market to buy some tubers of yam and a petrol tanker belonging to Total lost control and ran over his car.

“The accident involved the tanker, the deceased’s car and a motorcycle. But the man was the only one who died. He was confirmed dead at a hospital nearby. His body was moved to Wesley Hospital this morning (Thursday).
“It is unfortunate that he died just like that. He was the only one who died in the accident. His wife and son suffered injuries and had been taken to hospital for treatment. ”
Meanwhile, the sector commander has advised motorists to always abide by traffic rules and regulations, saying the commission would not relent in his efforts to ensure a strict adherence to the rules.

He said this during decoration ceremony of 13 officers of the command in Osogbo.
Hussein hinted that the commission would not condole any act of indiscipline while calling on officers and men of the command to desist from act capable of soiling the image of the commission.
Husaini charged the newly promoted officers to be upright and to be more dedicated in their duties.
