Suya fire ignited fuel of Lagos tanker fire – LASEMA

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency has said the inferno that razed several shops and houses in the Idimu area in Lagos was caused by the fire of a Suya(roasted peppery meat) seller, which ignited the content spilling out of a fuel tanker.

The truck had crashed along the Egbeda-Idimu road around midnight on Friday.

Head of Operations, LASEMA, Femi Giwa, said this at the scene of the crash on Saturday.

Giwa, who explained that 34 shops and 70 houses “were affected” by the tanker fire, said after the fuel truck crashed, it spilled its contents into the surrounding areas but burst into flames when the fuel flowed into the Suya seller’s spot.

He said 10 houses out of the affected buildings were “completely destroyed”.

He added that two fully-loaded tankers as well as some commercial bus drivers had attempted to outrun one another along Idimu Road.

“The tanker at the back, that is the second one, fell and crashed into a building, but the impact was reduced by the culvert. The content(of the tanker) then spilled and was ignited by the flames of a suya seller nearby,” Giwa said.

  1. Isn't it time danfo buses are brought to order? They drive reckless and endanger citizens. Even the tankers and truck drivers are not left out. They should be given speed limits and cautioned seriously.
