The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party says it will want Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to probe its predecessor, Babatunde Fashola’s eight-year administration.
The PDP also expressed its displeasure over what it described as a “slow start” of the new government, saying it wants Ambode to hit the ground running.
The party, in a statement issued on Sunday by its Publicity Secretary, Mr. Taofik Gani, said the inability of the incumbent governor to probe Fashola and begin in earnest development works in Lagos was a “bad omen for any meaningful development in the coming four years of this administration.”
The major opposition party in the state alleged that the eight years of ex-governor Fashola was characterised by human rights violations and misappropriation of funds.
“On behalf of all concerned Lagosians, we call on the governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode to immediately set up a commission of enquiry to investigate the eight years administration of his predecessor, Babatunde Fashola.
“The need for this is apt in view of the cases of human rights abuse witnessed during Fashola’s tenure, especially ones perpetrated by the state’s task force and Kick Against Indiscipline officers,” the PDP said.
The opposition party stated that Ambode should find out how the sum of N68 billion was spent by Fashola’s government.
“The bogus cost of the Falomo bridge must also be probed. The cost of buying over of the Lekki-Epe toll system must also be investigated.
“Imagine all the canals purportedly contracted to be cleared and channelled are all block. Lagosians are now suffering from flooding. This must be investigated,” the statement added. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
