The chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum (PDPGF) who is also governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Mimiko, has said PDP is rebranding to offer very responsible and constructive opposition.
Mimiko stated this on Tuesday in Abuja after a meeting of PDP governors in Abuja.
Mimiko said, “We are doing some re-organisation, re-branding and re-positioning, essentially, that is what we are doing now. We are putting ourselves together to offer very responsible and constructive opposition.”
Mimiko’s declaration came after governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi, disclosed that the election of Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State as chairman was ratified by all the 12 governors present.
Umahi, who read the communique of the forum also said that “the state election tribunals in Rivers State, Taraba State and Akwa Ibom State which were illegally relocated to Abuja, must be returned to their various states immediately.”
The governors had met to consolidate their position ahead of today’s meeting between President Muhammadu Buhari and the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF).
The meeting started at about 8:20pm and ended at about 11:18pm.
The governors present at the meeting were Governors Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Darius Isiaku (Taraba), Olusegun Mimiko (Ondo), John Jonah (Bayelsa), Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Ayo Fayose (Ekiti), Idris Wada (Kogi), Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Udo Emmanuel (Akwa Ibom), Dave Umahia (Ebonyi) and Ibrahim Dankwambo (Gombe).
Only Cross River State governor, Professor Ben Ayade, was absent at the meeting.
Meanwhile, barring any last minute changes, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would on Wednesday hold a board of trustees meeting.
Leadership gathered that the meeting would expectedly deliberate on some salient issues affecting the party including the emergence of a substantive party chairman. and the evolving National Assembly tussle.
Statutorily, the BoT meeting of the party is preparatory to a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting which is the highest decision making body in the party second only to the national convention. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
