Mudashiru Obasa emerges Lagos Assembly speaker



The lawmaker representing Agege Constituency 1, Mudashiru Obasa, has emerged the Speaker of the 8TH Lagos State Assembly.

Obasa, who is a fourth term legislator, was nominated by Mr. Olanrewaju Oshun of Mainland Constituency 2 and the motion was seconded by Mr. Sola Giwa of Lagos Island constituency 2.

The new Speaker, who is a loyal supporter of a leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, was elected unopposed.


Obasa, who is from Agege constituency I, and Chairman of the House Committee on Budget and Economic Planning of the 7th, legislative assembly.

Hon. Wasiu Eshinlokun-Sanni, from Lagos Island Constituency I, was elected as deputy speaker. Eshinlokun, a Lagos Prince, was a member of the House between 1999 and 2003.

The duo, subsequently, took the oath of office in accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria after been sworn-in.

The 8th Assembly has 40 house members with 32 from All Progressives Congress, APC, and eight members from Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Ambode in his proclamation and inauguration of the 8th assembly said “Your victory at the polls is a testament of your popularity.

Distinguished members, as we commence a new dispensation, it is important to note that we have a great task ahead.”
