The Lagos Traffic Management Authority says it is the desire of the government that the agency ensure an accident-free and unimpeded flow of traffic in the state.
The Deputy Comptroller of the agency, Philip Ogunlade, said this during the inauguration of 23 tow vehicles of various capacities.
Ogunlade said, “The initiative is meant to assist LASTMA to improve on service delivery, ensure free flow of traffic, remove broken down vehicles from the roads and enhance general implementation of traffic laws.”
The deputy comptroller said the state government had been making various reforms to reposition and re-engineer LASTMA for better service performance.
He said, “LASTMA is going through systematic reforms and has taken giant steps that will improve its human and institutional capacity to deliver accident-free and unimpeded flow of traffic in Lagos State.
“The government has demonstrated confidence, support and trust in LASTMA to function efficiently in line with best practices. That is why medium and high capacity tow vehicles that have been incapacitated for years have been refurbished to boost the operational capacity of LASTMA.”
Ogunlade said the agency had also consistently embarked on human capacity building to improve traffic management efficiency and service delivery.
He added that the agency had trained its men on good conduct; inter personal relationship, quick response to road safety and emergency, and how to operate within the ambit of the law.
He said the training was responsible for the existing cordial relationship between the agency and the public.
“Such goodwill is responsible for the increase in motorists’ voluntary compliance with the traffic law in the state,” he added.
Ogunlade noted that in order to maintain discipline, many LASTMA officers had been sanctioned for various acts that were at variance with the civil service rules and regulations.
The Head, Recovery Department, LASTMA, Henry Akintominde, said the tow vehicles would boost the agency`s capacity to remove broken down vehicles from the roads to ensure safety and free flow of traffic.
