This nonsense must stop. Nigeria is not Pakistan. There can be no such offense as blasphemy in our law books, talk less of a death sentence for it!

This is one of the reasons those "Sharia" or "Taliban" states in the North will remain backward. We wait to see the role the Federal Government will play in this. My understanding had always been that Sharia courts in Nigeria do not have jurisdiction to sentence anyone to death. Sentencing someone to death because he spoke against a religious leader? Ludicrous!

ReplyDeleteIf you take that position then the Federal Government would not be bothered when Muslims are killing Muslims. But it does not work that way. No responsible government would watch a particular religion or sect in its domain killing one another. I believe the Nigerian constitution, which is above any religious law in the country, reserves death sentence only in the hands of the Federal Government.
