Governor Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe State on Saturday assured security personnel involved in the war against Boko Haram insurgents in the state of prompt payment of allowances.
Gaidam made the pledge on Saturday during a special parade by troops of 27 Task Force Brigade, Operation Zaman Lafiya, in Damaturu.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the parade was to decorate deserving personnel who had spent a minimum of six months in the ongoing operation against the insurgents in the North-East.
The governor also pledged to provide more logistic support to the brigade to assist with its operations.
“This policy posture is in consonance with our responsibility as a government to secure lives and property with a view to ensuring that law and order prevail in the state.
“We will continue to accord priority attention to the welfare of the officers and men who prosecute the insurgency campaign through prompt payment of their allowances.
“This include provision of drugs to the brigade clinic, payment of medical bills of those who sustain injuries and assistance to the families of our heroes who lost their lives while combating insurgents in the state,” Gaidam said.
He commended the military for exhibiting exceptional courage in the campaign against insurgency, code named Operation Zaman Lafiya.
“The presentation of medals to you today is an expression of our gratitude and an assurance that the sacrifice and service you render to your father land shall never be forgotten,” he said.
The governor urged the recipients to regard it as a clarion call to render greater service to the nation.
