I wonder why Nigerians are so anxious to have Ministers – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has queried why Nigerians are eager to have him name his cabinet, two weeks after he was sworn in as president of the country.

In an interview with AFP on the sidelines of the African Union summit in Johannesburg, Buhari addressed concerns he had not yet appointed a cabinet more than two weeks after he came to power following his victory in March polls.

“I don’t know why people are so anxious to have ministers, but eventually we will have,” he said.
Buhari said that audits were currently being carried out in various government departments — and the finance and petroleum ministries in particular — to try and establish what situation they were left in by the previous administration.

“I am not in a hurry to get ministers,” he said.

“I want to get ministers after at least I have seen this report, so that I don’t have to appoint a minister today and sack him next week,” he said.

  9. This is an interest-group expectation, not the common man's expectation. Once you have Ministers, the wastage begins. Contracts are handed out left and right to friends, relatives and associates. The United States of America, the most economically developed country in the world has ten Ministries or less. Nigeria, a third world country has 36 and growing. Each ministry in Nigeria is an outlet of waste and corruption, not a planning tool.

  10. I have said it time without number. Some Nigerians seems to forget easily, just because of their myopic understanding of governance ie GEJ.
    Nobody can stamped the General.
Please ladies & gentlemen leave our party alone. Do judge us when we might have spent the same number of years that your clueless Gej spent. Then you can compare and contrast.
Trust me the difference will speak volume. Gbam

  14. You were voted into power as the president as a supervisor for all Ministers. You can't do it all and you require the effort of minister to implement federal charaters, projects are suffering and you can have a minister while conducting audit.Buhari,we are aware that you are upright in character but not a politician.Country is corrupt and it does not deprived you putting your idears together to move our great county to the promised Land.
