Finally, FG, marketers agree to end fuel scarcity next week

The Federal Government and petrol marketers on Friday agreed to put an end to Nigeria’s fuel scarcity problems before the close of business next week Saturday.

The Punch had reported exclusively that the government would meet with the marketers on Friday in a bid to address the prolonged fuel scarcity problems.

The meeting, which was well attended by stakeholders in the sector, had top officials from the Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria, Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria, Pipelines and Product Marketing Company, and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.

Others were heads from the Department of Petroleum Resources, Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency, Petroleum Equalisation Fund and the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources.

Reading out the resolution reached after the meeting which lasted for several hours at the headquarters of the petroleum ministry, the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Taiye Haruna, said it was agreed that the PPMC, as well as marketers, should increase the level of product supply across the country.

“We have also agreed that efforts be made to clear these long queues before the end of June 13, 2015, that is next week,” he said.

  1. Both Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke and Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala should have been brought to such meeting in Cages to come and explain the roles in the troubles they left behind.

Well, we are waiting for investigations and accountability that will lead to returning loots from the criminals in our country.

  2. This agreement is based on NNPC being the ONLY importer of PMS and Kerosene, since the marketers will not import unless the subsidy issue is determined. Is this sustainable? All the marketers have agreed to is to lift products that are provided by NNPC. What is holding Buhari from simply removing the subsidy now? Fear of NLC? Nonsense!

  3. D president missed the opportunity to remove subsidy on his inuguration day. Becos of high expectation, nigerians would have accepted it as one of d changes to take place in this admin

  4. Buhari administration should look into PPMC in the petroleum industry, they are big thief ......their official have evil agreement with most of the filling stations, they have adjusted their pump to the extent that for every 5 litres of products you buy,one litre is off whereas it will read the normal litres,at the end of the day they will collect their returns based on the number of tankers sold per week........check all the filling stations along the express road
