The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Tuesday grilled a former governor of Ebonyi State, Martin Elechi.
Elechi who arrived at the Wuse, Abuja office of the commission at 10am, along with some former cabinet members, was accused of misappropriating public funds while in office.
The former governor, who left office on May 29, after a second term, could not be quizzed while in office by the commission because he had constitutional immunity against prosecution.
The anti-graft agency had on January 29, 2015 questioned the former governor’s son, Nnanna on allegations of money laundering and embezzlement.
The EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed that Elechi was being interrogated following allegations of misappropriation of public funds.
When asked if he would be detained overnight, Uwujaren said he did not know and asked our correspondent to call back for an update.
But attempts to ascertain whether the former governor would be detained overnight was not successful as several calls made to Uwujaren’s telephone line at 6.45pm failed to connect.

This man is the right definition of fraud...when it is defined in the dictionary his pic should be shown for illustration....i have studied his case, this is man who inherited a growing state from such a good man Egwu sam the former governor of the state. Elechi closed down his states teaching hospital and built known,closed down the state football club,stoped the programme for masters abroad which was put in place by the former government just to encourage the people from going to school and to widen the horizon of a common man in the state since the state is ravaged by illiteracy, this man only built mini bridges to patronise his son nnana who built an asphalt plant as his father resumed office,he started a 20kilometre road dualization and construction at his first tenure which he did not finish for 8years of being a governor and was building an estate which he name after his title "ochudo city " which he still could not finish...this man wasted the people mandate and only enriched him self with the state allocation, and the excess crude oil money available at his time and made the state worse than he mate it,i did not mention he comes to work from a neighbouring state (enugu state) whose governor was working...Elechi borrowed 20 billion and asked for another 16 billion naira loan from the federal govt which was declined because he cld not account for what he did with the 20 billion...of course he left office with 3 months of workers salary...Ebonyi people were really unfortunate to have had this kind of man as their governor
