Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, on Thursday met with members of the Neighbourhood Watch and Community Development Committees in the state, where he said the policy thrust of his administration would be community development.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Lagos State Governor, Habib Aruna, on Thursday said the governor, who was represented by his Deputy Mrs. Oluranti Adebule, at the interactive session held at the Lagos House, Ikeja, said his administration would give the government back to the communities.
He said, “Let me assure you that, going forward, you will be playing more significant and critical role in this administration. The present administration is giving back government to the communities; the policy thrust of this administration.
“We know that if we develop the community, we have developed the local government; that means we are equally developing the state. But we will not start from up, we will start from the bottom so that we will go up like that.”
Ambode also expressed appreciation for the contributions of the Neighbourhood Watch members to the maintenance of law and order in the communities.
He said there was the need for the body to embark on self appraisal in order to ensure that its members lived up to the expectations of the public.
The governor reiterated the commitment of his administration to ensuring the provision of 20 new rural roads in each of the Local Government Areas in the state, as he promised during his electioneering campaigns.
Speaking earlier, the Coordinator of the Neighbourhood Watch, Mr. Akeem Sanni, thanked the state government for always according the watchers recognition. He said whatever members of the body lacked in terms of equipment would be communicated to the governor.
The Chairman of the Advisory Council of the Community Development Committees, Mr. T.A Quadri, who spoke on behalf of his members, said they wanted to be more involved in state government activities at the local level.
