A group of politicians under the aegis of Coalition of Nigerian Leaders for Stability, has berated ex-President Goodluck Jonathan for the implementation of the amnesty programme, saying it fell below 20 per cent.
The organisation, therefore, appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to review the programme after December, saying over 13,000 ex-militants were yet to benefit from it.
The Convener and National Coordinator of CNLS, High Chief Mike Loyibo, disclosed this at a news briefing held in Abuja on Thursday, where he warned the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress against meddling in the affairs of the National Assembly.
He said it was imperative for the Federal Government to review the programme in order to sustain the peace the region and the country enjoy at the moment.
He said, “We therefore call on the listening Nigerian President (Buhari) to see the need to review the ongoing amnesty programme, which is slated to expire by December 2015 with a view to extending the programme to 2019. This will certainly pave way for the entrenchment of peace and stability in the country.
“At the moment, the amnesty programme is yet to train over 13 000 ex-agitators who are jobless and when neglected could be used to disturb the peace in the region.
“The Jonathan’s administration failed to implement the agreement reached as implementation was below 20 per cent. As we are aware, the amnesty program is beyond the ex-agitators in the Niger Delta as beneficiaries cut across regional differences.”
The CNLS, therefore, called on Nigerians to exercise patience with Buhari, explaining that the country’s problems would take some time to fix and that past leaders contributed about 60 per cent of the problems.
Loyibo, who used the platform to congratulate Dr. Bukola Saraki and Hon. Yakubu Dogara on their victories as Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives in the 8th National Assembly, called on the APC to allow the will of the lawmakers and Nigerians to prevail and “should not interfere with the legislature in Nigeria.” Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

Shameful that a bunch of young able-bodied men could rely on some hand-outs they call "amnesty" to make a living! Really sad. They ought to be ashamed that they are in the so-called Amnesty programme!
ReplyDeleteYoung men, go and ask your clueless Oga Johnathan why did he forget you in his 6 years of rule.
