President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday said he conceded victory to Muhammadu Buhari in the March 28 Presidential election because of his desire to keep the country away from conflict.
He said having been involved in solving many problems in African countries for more than five years, he knew the enormity and cost of conflicts and would not want Nigeria to witness such.
A statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, quoted the President as speaking while receiving members of the African Ambassadors Group, who were on a farewell and solidarity visit to the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
He said he would always be committed to strengthening democracy in Nigeria and Africa.
Jonathan added that his decision to concede victory was to show example to the world that democracy can survive and thrive in Africa without conflicts.
The President said, “I believe that character matters in leadership. And it is not just about who becomes the President of a country, but somebody has to be there and the person needs the support of all to succeed.
“I made a choice to keep the country away from conflict.
“I have always advised other African leaders that we will need to have a country before we can have the ambition to become Presidents.
“We don’t have to expose our people to deaths because we want to stay in power. Some people hold on to power, may be, for fear of the unknown.”
The President recalled working extensively for more than five years with other African Presidents to forestall crisis in some African countries, especially in the West African sub-region.
He also said he led peace efforts in some of the countries like Cote ‘d’Ivoire, Mali and Guinea Bissau.
“I have been involved in solving many problems in African countries for more than five years and I know the enormity and cost of conflicts, especially on the citizenry. We cannot afford that in Nigeria.
“If we were to have a political conflict in Nigeria, I am not sure the sub-region will be able to accommodate our citizens.
“My commitment is to always put the country before my personal ambition and that is what I have demonstrated,’” he added.
Jonathan then called on the global community and Nigerians to support the incoming government of Buhari.
He said the incoming government would need the cooperation and commitment of the global community and Nigerians to effectively deliver on its promises to the people.
“The President-elect is not new to governance in Africa so I want you to show the same commitment to him as you have to me. The President-elect knows that our commitment is always to project Africa. I am urging you to extend the same warmth and solidarity you have shown to me to him,” he said.
The President further enjoined African leaders to encourage trade within the continent by building infrastructures and institutions that promote trade and relationships.
In his remarks, the Dean of Diplomatic Corps in Nigeria, Oubi Bochir, commended Jonathan’s high sense of patriotism, statesmanship and transparency in the last general elections.
He noted that the President won the heart and minds of all Nigerians and Africans after the elections. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

DeleteFrankly speaking, I am now convinced that our dear CiC is indeed totally myopic and a product of a totally insane and traumatised society where the biblical reprobate mind rules rather than the awareness of Godliness.
ReplyDeleteIt's obvious that our dear CiC is yet to grasp the true meaning/understanding of good, acceptable, effective, performing, diligent, humble, emphatic and honest leadership.
Our dear CiC is pathologically lacking the sense of knowing what is truly right and wrong during his sojourn with the seat of power.
GEJ, the usual pathological portrait of a Wolf in Sheep Clothing, quick to condemn the evil that were not perpetuated in his own interest or the interest of PDP.
This write-up is absolutely nothing but the usual BS from GEJ to say the least to me since GEJ is always like the naked emperor who thinks he is wearing the most glamorous dress in history.
While GEJ may be living in his pathologically unrepentant self-delusionary world, everyone is just waiting for this enigma of a fellow to pass so that Nigerians including the world at large can indeed breathe a sigh of relief.
Every knowledgeable and sane personal knows that the following Bible verses are speaking against GEJ;
1) Proverbs 14 vs 34: It is righteous and the strife and thirst for it that will exalt our dear Nation and the unprecedented corruption and governance atrocities GEJ encouraged are known and are obvious disgrace/embarrassment to our dear Nation Nigeria, e.g. Drug Baron Burugi Kashamu, Ekiti Gate Tapes, Corruption is not same as Stealing, etc.
2) Proverbs 6 vs 16-19: It is common knowledge that these are the key attributes of GEJ. GEJ encouraged pathological liars, murderers, wicked schemes (GEJ postponed the election because he knew he will lose woefully, and now it has happened). GEJ encourage evil (thank God for the way Prof. Jega handled Elder Orubebe, their evil scheme backfired and GEJ was forced to quickly concede defeat knowing fully well that he can never be exonerated from the shameless manner (which for the records, GEJ has never officially rebuked to this day) that Elder Orubebe portrayed our dear Nation Nigeria. GEJ encouraged false witnesses who pours out lies and above all he stirred up dissension among Nigerians who are supposed to see themselves as brothers (... in brotherhood we are supposed to stand.).
GEJ was snookered into quickly conceding defeat after the worldly acknowledged public shameful behaviour.
All glory, honour and thanks to Almighty God for the wisdom, composure and manner in which Prof. Jega handled Elder Orubebe, making the evil scheme of GEJ and PDP to seriously backfire.
Let it be known to our outgoing CiC that, all well-meaning and sane Nigerians as we speak are still waiting for GEJ (either in his private or official capacity) to openly dissociate himself from the National embarrassment and indictment of the Ekitigate Tapes.
3) Ephesians 5 vs 11-13: It is also a common knowledge that GEJ encouraged and rewarded evil doers and workers of iniquity.
In conclusion, it is only a foolish and unduly sentimental Nigerian that will believe that GEJ ever had anything to offer Nigerians and Nigeria at large.
May the good Lord in His infinite mercies complete the deliverance of Nigerians and Nigeria at large in the mighty Name of Jesus Christ, Amen and Amen.
Fucking liters, you dey fear for ICC. You have been warned that, never go to gbagbo way. Fake Phd holder and incompetent president.
ReplyDeleteGEJ is truly our hero in the just concluded election.
ReplyDelete"He said he would always be committed to strengthening democracy in Nigeria and Africa."
ReplyDeleteNever mind, your dream to become a UN Ambassador will come to pass.
Jonadaft please spare us this bullshit of your conceding defeat... you where defeated and you know you did not have a choice... we also know how wicked you are, if you where given the slightest choice you would have striked. Jonadaft Please you are not a domocrat, you where democratically elected but Nigerians never got the dividend of democracy in your 5years... just shut up and let nigerians be
ReplyDeleteDoes it means, if the APC and GMB were weak (without potentials to defend and if need be forcefully reclaim their mandate), Mr President would have done otherwise despite the outcome? Recall that, FFK said, 'if not for their style of campaign, the defeat margin would have been wider'. How can someone want to take glory for organizing credible elections at the same time wants us to believe if it weren't for his magnanimity, it's outcome was nothing to write home about? How do we synchronize between the two opposing views? I suggest silence on this issue would have been a more honourable path to take. Atondu Akaan
