A three-member National and State Houses of Assembly Election Tribunal in Sokoto State, was on Wednesday inaugurated by its Chairman, Justice Anselem Nwaigwe. The two other members of the Tribunal are Justice Ogbogo Ejembi and Justice Abubakar Mohammed.
Nwaigwe said that the tribunal had so far received four petitions in respect of the State and National Assembly elections. He said that one of the petition was on the Senatorial, and three on the House of Representatives elections Nwaigwe called on counsel, political party representatives and their witnesses, to be punctual in attending the sitting of the tribunal saying,” we are conscious of time, bearing in mind that time is of the essence. ” Any delay in hearing and determining the petitions, will be dangerous,” he added. Nwaigwe promised that the tribunal would do justice in the matters before it, irrespective of whoever was involved.
The Chairman solicited the support and cooperation of members of the bar, to uphold the dignity of the profession. He warned against attempts to influence the tribunal or any of its members, saying any such act would be viewed seriously and the culprit, appropriately punished. ” We are here, not only to do justice, but to see that justice is done in all the matters before us,”’ he said.
Nwaigwe further solicited the support and cooperation of Journalists, urging them to always cross-check facts with the Secretary of the tribunal before publication.
