Cleric urges Buhari to rebuild north’s burnt churches

The Presiding Bishop of Victory Chapel International, Mike Bamidele, has advised President-elect Muhammadu Buhari to rebuild churches burnt down by the Boko Haram sect and to rehabilitate those who were displaced by the terror attacks.

Bamidele said this in Osogbo on Wednesday at a press conference to herald this year’s Pentecost Day celebration which will hold on Monday.

The cleric said the sect started its attack against Christians and churches before extending it to other religions and institutions.

He said, “They started by attacking churches; churches were burnt, pastors were killed before they went on to attack others.

Rebuilding the churches and rehabilitating the internally displaces persons will be a good step of reconciliation by the incoming administration.

“He should assuage the feelings of the people. The incoming president will assuage the feelings of many Nigerians if he can come and embark on true reconciliation. If he does this, he will prove some people wrong and it will be a good starting point for his administration.”
The bishop, who urged Osun State Governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, to declare the Pentecost Day a work-free day in the state, said this would further promote religious harmony and remove suspicion.

According to him, Pentecost Day is always 50 days after Easter, saying countries like Germany and Netherlands observed the day as a work-free day.

Bamidele explained that participants at the Pentecost celebration would be empowered spiritually to overcome the evil forces which, he said, was the reason behind terrorism, kidnapping and other crimes.
He explained that the congregation would pray for peace and success of Buhari administration. He said it was not enough for the President-elect to have good intentions because his intentions could be thwarted by some forces who would not want him to succeed.

The bishop said prayers would also be said to end the financial stress in Osun State caused by nonpayment of the workers salaries.

He stated that the nonpayment of workers salaries was having adverse effects on the economy of the state.
