Be ready to refund stolen money, El Rufai tells PDP

Kaduna State Governor-elect, Mallam Nasir El Rufai Tuesday said that all stolen money by the current ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, must be refunded as soon as the incoming government of the All Progressive Change, APC, was sworn in on May 29th, 2015.

The former Minster of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, made the statement in a speech yesterday when executive members of the National Union of Textile Garments and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria, NUTGTWN, paid him a courtesy visit in his private residence in Kaduna.

El-Rufai said, “we will politely ask those who stole government money to return the funds.

The former Minister decried what he described as the “shameful” state of the textile industry in the area, pledging that his government will reverse the trend.

He however said those (politicians) who were not corrupt had no cause to fear.

According to him, the measure was imperative because the All Progressives Congress-led government would be in a dire financial strait on assumption of office.

El-Rufai said, “We will politely ask those who stole government money to return the funds. This is because the people, who are in government now, are there to work for themselves. But the APC government is made up of people who are ready to work for the masses and the betterment of the country.

“We will work with the textile unions to ensure that the lives of the average Nigerians get better.”

The ex-minister also decried the poor state of the textile industry in Kaduna State and gave assurance that his administration would revamp it.

He lamented the current employment figure of 1,600 people in the textile sector, describing it as unacceptable.

El-Rufai added that the textile industry in Kaduna alone used to employ about 33,000 workers.

According to him , the APC government will revive the industry so that it can generate employment and impact on the lives of the people.

He said, “We have met at a forum of northern governors-elect and we decided to ensure the revival of the textile industry. It is a shame that the largest economy in Africa imports textile materials from Senegal and other countries.”

The President of the union, Oladele Hunsu, recalled el-Rufai’s feat as minister of the FCT and urged him (el-Rufai) to take steps towards reviving the textile industry.

  1. They should also be thrown in jail. Refunding stolen funds is no punishment. Jail is a necessary component when one is found gulty of theft.

    1. Most time I wonder your sense of reasoning, El'Rufai was a member of OBJ's government for eight years, Atiku also vice president for eight years, Amaechi PDP governor for about seven years, Bukola PDP governor for about eight years, PDP senator for about seven years, OBJ president for eight years, Oby Ezekwesili was part of OBJ's tenure for about eight years, Tambuwal, speaker house of rep PDP for about 4years and a host lot of others, they are all now in APC. Only APC states that are owing salaries of their workers till date, the biggest thief in Nigeria is an APC chief, GMB knows all these, U won't see any difference btw this present government and the incoming one.

    1. I am really having a problem understanding your thinking; if past presidents refused to prosecute their predecesor and GMB decides to do so, to recover some of their loot, please tell me what is costitutional wrong in that, OBJ looked for Abacha's loot and got a good number of it, although he did not make approperiate use of it. Please stop commenting with your sentiment.
