Another batch of 32 women and children rescued by the Nigerian Army from the Sambisa forest in Borno have been handed over to officials of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp at Malkohi in Yola.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the victims were brought to the camp on Sunday at about 10 pm for verification and rehabilitation.
Hajia Asma’u Yakubu, an official of Borno Emergency Management Agency, said that the rescued women and children were initially kept at the Giwa military barrack in Maiduguri before they were handed over to the Borno Government.
“Today on behalf of Nigerian Army, we are handing over another 32 rescued women and children to National Emergency Management Agency and Adamawa State Government.
“The victims were evacuated from Giwa barrack in Maiduguiri shortly after been rescued from Sambisa forest .” Asmau, who represented Chairman of the agency, Girema Terab, said.
The Executive Secretary, Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency, Alhaji Haruna Furo , who received the rescued victims, pledged to cater for their needs.
He said that NEMA and other sister organisations working in the camp, have already made necessary arrangement for the feeding, medicare and accommodation of the IDPs.
Furo noted that the victims, comprising 12 women and 20 children including a 10-day-old baby, were from Madagali and Michika Local Government areas of the state.
He explained that two of the rescued children were suffering from acute malnutrition while the rest suffer from trauma.
The executive secretary said the camp has medical experts in socio and psychotherapy to cater for the victims.
News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) recalls that the military had three week ago brought in the first batch of 275 rescued women and children from Sambisa forest.
