We are down but not out – PDP National Chairman, Adamu Mu’azu

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), says though it lost the March 28, presidential election to the All Progressives Congress (APC), it is not downcast.

This was contained in a statement issued by Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, the PDP National Chairman on Thursday in Abuja.

“For us in the PDP, we want to state in very clear terms that we are not down. We are only at our redefining moment.

“Rather than demoralise us, this election has afforded us great lessons and we are now more than ever before reinvigorated for the race ahead,

“If the outcome of the election is truly the reflection of the wishes and aspirations of our citizens, the PDP will most willingly respect that wish,” the statement quoted Mu`azu as saying.

He added that what was paramount to the PDP was the survival of the country`s democracy, unity, peace and progress and the happiness of Nigerians.

Mu’azu stressed that Nigeria “is bigger’’ than any political party, individual or group, saying that its overall interest must be the priority of all.

“As we return to the electorate for the April 11, 2015 Governorship and State Assembly elections, we go recharged with faith in our heart.

“We assure all our candidates in the remaining elections that the party will stand with you, campaign with you and work vigorously to ensure your total victory at the polls,” he said.

He, however, commended President Goodluck Jonathan, the PDP presidential candidate at the election for his heroic act in conceding to the voice of the people.

He said that it was an action that stood him out as a true democrat and a statesman.

He also congratulated the APC candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, for his resilience and victory in the election and wished him success in the onerous task of leading the nation once again.
The PDP national chairman also commended the electorate for the peaceful manner in which they conducted themselves during the elections.

He maintained that the nation was however at the threshold of history and its defining moment for the future.

“However, we have received reports of serious irregularities that characterised the conduct of the election.

“We shall channel our protests to the appropriate quarters in line with our profound respect for the rule of law and democratic ethos.

“Our party comes with great values and tradition and we will adhere to them and ensure that nothing is done to truncate our democracy,” he said.

Mu’azu called on PDP supporters across the country to remain steadfast in its renewed effort to deliver its flag bearers in the remaining elections.

He, however, noted that the PDP had in the last 16 years worked hard in rebuilding and strengthening democratic institutions, tenets and norms in the country.

He said that the party did this while lifting the country`s status as the leading democracy in Africa and one of the best in the world.

“It is incontrovertible that under the PDP-led government, our nation moved from a near pariah status to a strong actor in the international democratic arena,” he said.

He stressed that this was a product of various electoral reforms and the party’s: “iron-cast commitment to transparent, free and fair electoral process at all levels.”

Mu’azu held that even in the midst of obvious threats to the country`s democracy, the PDP and the government it sponsored continued to stabilise the polity.

He added that through strict adherence to rule of law and liberalisation of the political and economic space, the party was able to stabilise the polity.

He added that in the last 16 years, the PDP-led administration achieved significant milestones in the social and economic lives.

He said that the PDP moved Nigeria from a debtor nation to Africa’s largest economy and one of the fastest growing in the world.

According to him, the feat was accompanied with unprecedented expansion of the private sector and multi-sectorial infrastructural development across the country.

  1. There is no heroism in Jonathan conceding the election after he had lost. What other choices did he really have? None! He lost the election by almost three million votes, so what makes him a hero in acknowledging that he lost?

    1. The heroism is that he chose not to fight it. Jonathan could decide to fight and there will be blood shed and dead bodies all over the place. He can choose not to concede the election and there will have been lots of unrest in the country with chaos all over the place and people fighting and killing one another. He did the right thing for the good of everyone. Some crazy politicians will refuse to go and will not concede the election and start a war.

  4. Elder, I think you are not addressing the real issues surrounding your party's demise and this will ensure that the nails are finally hammered on the coffin of your party come 11/04/2015 by the special grace of Almighty God.

You are also not remorseful that the people has rejected your party from leading this great Nation called Nigeria. Your demonstrated attitude should be a concern to any right thinking Nigerian.

Your statements and that of your party compatriots reminds me of the statements of some Nigerians that were convicted for corruption in the past, rather than being sincerely apologetic and remorsefully, one of them was foolish enough to tell Nigerians that "He Will Be Back" i.e. "He Will Bounce Back".

Nigerians rejected your party from leading Nigeria based on Godly principles and all you and your party compatriots can do is boast to us that "Your Party Will Bounce Back". This is indeed rather very very unfortunate.

During this election, your party mostly depended on openly squandering the scarce Dollars of the Nation in order to buy the heart of electorates (especially the religious leaders and traditional rulers) but the majority of people in Nigeria depended on the Almighty God (the one that has the heart of even Kings in His Hands).

Your party has aligned itself with Weapons that are Carnal but the majority in Nigeria (including Lagos) have aligned themselves with the weapons that are NOT Carnal.

The Almighty God has already hearkened to the cry of sincere and patriotic Nigerians (including Lagosians) that we do not want a ruling party but a party that equivocally states that they are a governing party which means servants of the people.

Within the next four years, God will use APC all over Nigeria (including Lagos) to set the requisite Leadership Standards after which the stage can be set for serious politics in Nigeria henceforth.

  5. Sir,

Please permit us to announce to you that it's no more business as usual Sir, the almighty God has firmly transferred power back into the hands of the people. Our votes now count through our PVCs.

By the special grace of almighty God, the Card Readers shall work perfectly come 11/04/2015 and your ruling proud party shall be firmly voted out of power even in many more states across the Federation.

    Just like one patriotic Nigerian indicated, the following Bible verses are speaking against you and your party in general, I would implore that you kindly take time to read and meditate on each of them very well;
    1) Proverbs 14 vs 34: Sir, it is righteous and the strife and thirst for it that will exalt our dear Nation and the unprecedented corruption and governance atrocities you and your party are known and obvious disgrace/embarrassment to our dear Nation Nigeria, e.g. Drug Baron Burugi Kashamu, Ekiti Gate Tapes, Corruption is not same as Stealing, etc.

    2) Proverbs 6 vs 16-19: Sir, it is common knowledge that these are the key attributes of your so-called great party, you encourage pathological liars, murderers, wicked schemes (you postponed the election because you felt GEJ will loose woefully, and now it has happened), you encourage evil (thank God for the way Prof. Jega handled Elder Orubebe, your evil scheme backfired and GEJ was forced to quickly concede defeat knowing fully well that he can never be exonerated from the shameless manner (which for the records, GEJ has never officially rebuked to this day) that Elder Orubebe portrayed our dear Nation Nigeria, you encourage false witnesses who pours out lies and above all your party encourage GEJ to stirred up dissension among Nigerians who are suppose to see themselves as brothers (... in brotherhood we are suppose to stand.).

    3) Ephesians 5 vs 11-13: Sir, it is also a common knowledge that your so-called great party encourages and rewards evil doers and workers of iniquity.

By this Sir, permit me to conclude that, it is only a foolish and unduly sentimental Nigerian that will believe that your party PDP in it's current composition and disposition as it is has any sincere thing to offer Nigerians and Nigeria at large.

  6. There' s bound to be a winner and a loser at any election, agreed. Jonathan's acceptance of losing at the polls even so many hours before the results were declared by INEC and his calling GMB to congratulate him is quite outstanding and commendable. Have you considered the extent of crisis that may have set into many places in Nigeria should he have refused to concede defeat? That we are all able to move about today is because of that singular act.
You quote bible to indicate you' re a christian. But does the bible not also teach us to seek peace and pursue it? Does the bible not teach that christians should respect those in authority as no man takes the honour of leadership upon himself. How have you fared in your responsibility as a christian in praying for those in authority in Nigeria, in praying for the peace and stability of our great nation?
Have you sat down to consider what would have happened should GMB have lost this election? Flashback and remember what happened when GMB lost in 2011. How many people including youth corpers lost their lives?
We should be given to promoting this peace that God in His mercy has decided to bring upon us. We should stop castigating GEJ. He' s had enough of all manner of insults from both old and young. I consider him heroic because he sees the peace and stability of Nigeria as more important than his political ambition. Take it or leave it, he has done us well. God bless Nigeria.
