Rivers JTF arrests five with AK-47 rifles, cannabis

The Joint Security Task Force in Rivers State on Thursday evening arrested five persons with three AK-47 riffles, several rounds of live cartridges and many kilograms of Indian hemp around the Wimpey area of Port Harcourt, the capital.
According to a top security official in the state, who confided in one of our correspondents, those arrested were hired thugs, who have been contracted by politicians to unleash violence on voters and innocent citizens before or during the governorship elections on Saturday.
Commending the efforts of the Joint Task Force for the arrest, Governor of the state, Rotimi Amaechi, urged voters and the people of Rivers State to remain calm and peaceful regardless of any situation as the security agencies were on top the situation.
According to Amaechi, the Task Force in the state had assured him that it was ready to ensure a peaceful, violence-free elections and the safety of lives and property before, during and after the elections.
Rivers State witnessed pockets of violence and gruesome killings during the March 28 presidential elections and the days that followed it.
