PDP plans to rig Ebonyi polls – APC

The Ebonyi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has alleged that the Peoples Democratic Party plans to rig the governorship and House of Assembly elections on Saturday.

The Ebonyi APC Chairman, Ben Nwaobasi, said the party had received reports that result sheets of the forthcoming elections have been sold to the PDP by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Nwaobasi made these claims on Monday while speaking to journalists in Abakaliki, the state capital.

He, therefore, called on security agents to investigate the matter, adding that it was capable of causing crisis in the elections.

“We can’t allow a repeat of the National Assembly elections in the state and we are calling on security agents to prepare for the challenge ahead.

“We heard that people have bought the results sheets for the next elections and we are watching them. We have alerted the whole world on this,” he said.

Speaking on the preparedness of the party for the governorship and state assembly elections, Nwaobasi said the APC was poised to win the polls.

He said, “Nobody should be given preferential treatment and we are calling on INEC not to be funny anymore. We cannot accept what happened in the National Assembly elections again; if it re-occurs we will fight it to the end.”

Meanwhile, the governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Ebonyi State, Edward Nkwegu, had appealed to the party’s supporters not to be demoralised by the election results declared after the presidential and National Assembly elections, which gave the PDP victory in three senatorial and six House of Representatives seats in the state.

Nkwegu stated that the LP actually won the NASS elections but alleged that some compromised staff of INEC, in collusion with the PDP, announced a different result.

In an address, entitled ‘The Imperative of Vigilance and Steadfastness’, the Ebonyi LP candidate vowed that the party would recover its stolen mandate through the due process of the law, noting that documentary evidence had already been compiled.

He challenged the security agencies, INEC officials and the citizens of the state to be vigilant in order to forestall such act in the April 11 governorship and state assembly elections, which he boasted that the LP would win once it is free and fair.
