PDP asks Governor Fashola to suspend Oba of Lagos

The Peoples Democratic Party has demanded the immediate suspension of Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, till after the governorship and state House of Assembly elections in Lagos State.

The party called on Governor Babatunde Fashola to suspend the first-class monarch.

It said this was necessary in order to guarantee free, fair and credible elections in the state.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by Lagos PDP Publicity Secretary, Mr. Taofik Gani, the party stated that it had also alerted the security agencies to hold the monarch responsible for any attack on non-indigenes or PDP members in Lagos.

According to the PDP, which is the major opposition party in the state, the silence of the governor of the state, Fashola, over 48 hours after such inflammatory statement and threat to life suggests that the king acted on behalf of the state government.

The statement said in part, “The governor is thus a conspirator in this threat to life and must also be held accountable for any violence in this elections. We have at this point been vindicated about the desperation of the APC to retain Lagos state at all cost including the All Progressives Congress’ plan not to concede the imminent defeat on April 11.

“The positions of the PDP are coming on the heels of the now viral threat issued by the Oba of Lagos to Igbos that they must vote for the APC Governorship Candidate, Akinwunmi Ambode, or be drowned in Lagos water.”

Despite the alleged threat to their lives, PDP urged Lagos non-indigenes and others to be part of Saturday’s voting exercise.

  8. Emilia, your comment with regards to the subject matter is rather disheartening coming from a woman. We should be free to vote whichever party / individual we chose to in a country we call ours regardless of where one resides or your state of origin.

  9. Dear Lagosians,
Yoruba,s are very decent and reasonable people. No tribe will entertain on their land what is going on in Lagos.

We all condemn the statement of OBA AKIOLU. But let ask ourselves one important question, WHY IS OBA AKIOLU ANGRY WITH IGBOS?

    My answers are:

    1. I WILL ELEVATE EZE NDIGBO TO THE STATUS OF OBA OF LAGOS - JIMI AGBAJE.

    2. IGBO WILL DETERMINE WHO RULES LAGOS- IFEANYI UBAH

    3. LAGOS IS NO MAN'S LAND.- IFEANYI UBAH DURING TAN CAMPAIGN.

    4. IGBO DEVELOPED AND CONTROL LAGOS- JIMI AGBAJE DURING GEJ CAMPAIGN IN AKWA IBOM

    5. WE MUST PRODUCE THE NEXT DEPUTY GOVERNOR OF LAGOS- EZE NDIGBO

    MY QUESTIONS TO IGBOS,

    1. CAN OBI OF ONITHSA ACCEPT ALL THE ABOVE MENTIONED?

    2. CAN EMIR OF KANO ACCEPT ....?

    3. DO YOU HAVE ANY SINGLE TRIBE IN YOUR CABINET IN THE EAST?

    4. CAN ANY TRIBE CLAIM ONITHSA OR ABA TO BE NO MAN,S LAND?

    5. CAN OBI OF ONITHSA ACCEPT THE ELEVATION OF SARKIN HAUSA IN ONITHSA TO OBI STATUS?

My conclusion: We have been living together as brothers for years in peace. You must respect our tradition and institutions.Ifeanyi Ubah should stop jumping around Lagos beating drums of war.

God bless Yorubas, igbos, hausas and other tribeso:)

    1. This is perhaps the first intelligent reaponse to this issue because you focused on the cause of the hate speech rather than the speech itself. God bless you

    1. You are the really truly foolish person. No State in Nigeria has been more tolerant of Igbos or other non-indigenes (in the past 16 years) like Lagos. Anonymous 3.57pm was right on his comment about the likely reasons for the alleged comments.

    2. We like trouble! Emilia expressed her opinion. Rather than express yours, most are jumping and screaming all over the place. Don't we have freedom of speech anymore?

  11. That thug who calls himself a traditional ruler after his corrupt stay in d police doesn't deserve to be on that throne. He deserves to be suspended. What he said is too indecent for d office he holds and as a retired peace officer, supposedly. That shows d kind of police officer he was. If a man who is getting close to d grave can't preach peace, when will he do that? Let all his ,lineage perish in d lagoon nd not d Igbos.

  12. The Oba of Lagos in an attempt to intimidate the igbos resident in Lagos has threatened to kill igbos if they vote for Jimi Agbaje for Governor. No body can test the resolve of our people. Igbo bu igbo let us now show our electoral worth and relevance by voting for Agbaje. Great warriors of Biafra, please teach this Oba a lesson with your vote. Any igbo who votes for Ambode is a slave. Send this to at least 5 others. Igbo kwenu ! !

  13. Amazing @ Anonymous 3:47. You pick a political jobber like Ifeanyi Ubah as representative of the Igbos and who exactly is Eze Ndigbo? You sound like you are trying to justify rubbish, SMH. There is no valid reason for the vitriolic utterances of the Oba. In this day and age, it is absolutely unacceptable for a traditional ruler, who should be maintaining law and order, to say this. Where did that come from? Rather than focus on issues that engender peace, brotherliness and development, he wants to be a hate monger. He should be more responsible than that. Did he pause to think of the possible reactions to his words, the orgy of violence, carnage and mistrust they could cause? Are you prepared for this? Let us jejely go about our business and have this election in peace.
