Oba of Lagos appeals to Igbos to Vote Ambode

The paramount ruler of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu has appealed to Igbo residents in Lagos state to vote for the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode.

The Oba made the appeal on Sunday when he met with Igbo leaders in his palace.

He urged them to swing their votes to the APC because he personally chose the governorship candidate of the party. It was believed that Igbo residents of Lagos, voted unanimously for the Peoples Democratic Party in the 28 March elections.

The Lagos Oba was visibly angry during his address and said he was not begging, but giving an instruction as to what he expected his Igbo citizens to do.

“I’m not ready to beg you. Nobody knew how I picked Ambode. Jimi (Agbaje) is my blood relation and I told him that he can never be governor in Lagos for now. The future belongs to God. I am not begging anybody, but what you people cannot do in Onitsha, Aba or anywhere, don’t do it here. If you do what I want, Lagos will continue to be prosperous for you”.

The monarch said anybody against Ambode does not wish the state well.

“‎I am for the progress, growth and development of Lagos. Ambode is highly cerebral, he’s a symbol and he is going to deliver the message which I, the Oba of Lagos, have said. And he will govern the state for another eight years. He is going on a mission and God will give him the wisdom and knowledge to fulfil that mission.

“Almost a year ago, I declared that Ambode will be the next governor of Lagos and it will not change. From time immemorial, the previous occupiers of this house will say what they wanted after consultation with other people. And this hasn’t changed and it will not change at this time.”

Akiolu restated what he has always said that Goodluck Jonathan administration did not cause the crisis in Nigeria, but that the crisis was caused by another person he refused to name.

“If not for the appeal from Asiwaju (Bola Tinubu) and my highly respected maternal father, the Awujale of Ijebuland, all what is happening today is not the cause of the present government. The man who caused everything knows himself”.

In his response, the Eze-Ndigbo of Amuwo-Oriade, Dr. Gordian Dimojiaku, promised that Igbo in Lagos would support Ambode.

“The mistake of last Saturday was caused by everybody, not only the Igbo. It is not only the Igbo that were responsible for the votes.

“But we have learnt our lesson. Saturday’s election is going to be a different thing and Ambode is going to win. Everybody knows that when you fail the first time, you cannot afford to fail again. We are going to tell our people that Ezes from the 20 Local Governments and 37 Local Council Development Areas are here and that we have sworn with the Oba that w‎e are going to make sure that Ambode wins next Saturday’s election.‎”

  1. This is a clarion call to Ignore to think home ward. When has election become a threat. How about other non indegens & yorubas who will vote PDP. UFOs are hounded in the north & Oba of Lagos has directed his people to take after the north. If the Yoruba elders keep quiet about this dangerous threat: then it's time Ignore say good bye to Nigeria. This is rewritable

  6. I only wish our Royal Fathers can be apolitical as they ought to. This would forestall insultive comments from those with neither respect for elders nor regards for Traditional Rulers.

  7. Igbos have been politically marginalized bcos of their bad choices of leadership. The Oba sounded a bit harsh but it's the bitter truth! It's good governance that has made Lagos what it is today. The igbos always bring this selfish sentiments to fundamental issues and that's why most of their states are still backward. We need to evolve in our thinking and stop dwelling in the past. All thesame, democracy is here to stay but use it wisely

  8. When did Oba becomes partisan?. You name who you are referring to. Obasanjo towered million meters above you and there is nothing you can do about it Oba. Just accept it. Obasanjo was a general while you were just a commisional of police. He was nigerian president while you were just Oba of lagos. The difference is just clear.

  9. I urged all igbo's to come out in mass an vote for PDP..This useless oba that is ranting as if he is God will soon meet his grave...I can smell death knocking at his door since he is now talking as if he owns the igbo's life.......The foolish Eze ndigbo who has no shame to tolerate this insult on his people is nothing but a bastard,he is not an igbo....Eze Ndigbo in Lagos, you are nothing but a fool at fourty for accepting to vote APC bcos of his threat......Igbo's it is high time you start coming back home to develop your towns than to be building mansions in different parts of the country that doesn't want you. There is no business you can not do in Onitsha,Aba,Portharcourt,Owerri and Enugu...Come back home and stop buying properties outside your region.

  14. Is this supposed to be democracy or what? I am not surprised by this low life's comments cos am pretty sure he's under the influence of something into his system. My greatest surprise the so called Eze-Ndigbo saying the Igbos made mistakes in last election. Please Ndigbo in Lagos vote for Agbaji.

  16. This must embolden Nd'Igbo the more to vote PDP. It is party politics and our fundamental human right to vote according to our conscience. More importantly, Igbos must begin to think homewards. Let's develop Igbo land and call the bluff of these idiots
