Nigeria may become a one party state – PDP

Following the gale of mass defection rocking the ruling Peoples Democratic Party after its defeat in the first phase of the general elections, the party has warned that Nigeria may become a one party state.

Its National Auditor, Alhaji Adewole Adeyanju, who stated this on Thursday in Abuja, warned the All Progressives Congress against turning Nigeria to a one party state.

Adeyanju, in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja ahead of the second phase of the elections, pointed out that a one party state was dangerous for the nation’s nascent democracy.

Adeyanju said rather than dumping PDP for the APC because of its brilliant performance in the last elections, “members should go back to the drawing board, put on their thinking caps and plan ahead of future elections, that is what is expected of a good politician, who really wants to serve his or her community”.

He added, “Our nascent democracy needs strong opposition, which will spur any ruling party to work hard for good governance. Rushing to the APC by PDP members, especially the so-called bigwigs, is not the answer to the current predicament of the PDP and it is dangerous to our nascent democracy. Rather we should come together to review our poor outing and look for a way forward.”

He expressed optimism that if PDP leaders could come together and put their acts together in a proper perspective once again, the party would surely bounced back having being in power for almost 16 years and based on its achievements.

  1. My brother, power is sweet. When you were in charge, you never for once thought along this line. You were at the forefront of those empowering Mimiko to take over everything and sent us parking then. We built pdp in Ondo State with our resources, you sold it out collecting millions of naira from Mimiko. We can no longer stay and rebuild it again. Bye bye to impunity.

  2. Hear the cry of a looser. Is it now you know defection defines Nigerian politics? Obanikoro, jimi agbaje, Fomer Gov. Shekarau, Gov Mimiko to mention a few are all defectors to the PDP. You must be out of your mind to start preaching ills of a one party state to us at this time. I'm sure the system will readjust itself and other alignments of an opposition will emerge. Take it from me, PDP is gone for good. Once you loose Lagos then nothing more to hold on to. Remember you don't have real politicians any longer; Obasanjo, Amaechi, Tinubu, Babangida, Atiku, Audu Ogbe, Buhari, Gemade, Kwankwaso, Saraki to mention a few are the regional champions of Nigerian politics today; none if these personalities is a member of PDP. I'd advise you change the name of the brand PDP cos its only a matter of time before it drowns naturally.
