More doom for Nigerian football as Enyimba, Kano Pillars crash out of CAF Champions League

Two Nigerian club sides, Enyimba of Aba and the Kano Pillars at the weekend crashed out of the 2015 CAF Champions League, while Warri Wolves sailed through to the next round of the CAF Cup.

Smouha FC of Egypt ended Enyimba’s sojourn with a 2-1 goals aggregate win, having won the second leg 2-0 on Sunday at home. Enyimba had won the first leg by a lone goal.

Pillars journey ended on Saturday despite beating Moghreb Tetouan 2-1 in Kano. The Nigerian side had lost the first leg 4-0 two weeks back.

However, Warri Wolves became the first Nigerian representative to go past the first round in CAF club competitions this year after holding Dedebit of Ethiopia to a goalless draw Sunday.

Wolves thus advanced 2-0 aggregate and will now face DR Congo’s Football Club MK Etancheite (FC MK), who sent packing Sudanese team Al Ahly Shandy.

MK beat Al Ahly Shandy 5-1 in the second leg on Friday.

Meanwhile, Kano Pillars’ forward Adamu Mohammed has stressed that injuries to several first team players was to blame for his side’s exit from the 2015 Caf Champions League after the club fell 5-2 on aggregate to Moghreb Tetouan on Saturday.

“It is a sad day in the history of the club. We had wanted to proceed to as far as the group stage but we couldn’t realize our objectives because of some problems we encountered that created a vacuum in the team,” Mohammed told Goal.

“It will always be difficult to qualify with most of our regular players injured. I want to assure you that we are going to bounce back in impressive style.”
