A member of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Board of Trustees, Chief Ebenezer Babatope, has said President Goodluck Jonathan will not run for the Presidency in 2019.
He explained that the party would shop for a strong Hausa/Fulani candidate to run against Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) in 2019.
Babatope, who is also a member of the party’s elders caucus, spoke with newsmen in Lagos on Wednesday.
He described the outgoing President as a leader, who had done his best in uplifting the nation’s democracy, adding that Nigeria would forever remember Jonathan as a committed leader, who kept the nation as one despite several challenges.
The 72-year-old said he was sure that the President would not seek to contest the 2019 presidential election.
The former transport minister added, “Although the people of the South-South have the right to present a candidate for the election, I’m sure the President will not contest. He will lead us against the All Progressives Congress.
“The President has set himself apart as a great Nigerian leader, who is committed to seeing Nigeria blossom into a great democracy. He has laid a solid foundation for the nation’s democracy and he would forever be remembered.
“The President will not contest the 2019 presidential election. The PDP will look for a strong Hausa/Fulani presidential candidate to contest against Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.” Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

Who cares? If he could not win as incumbent, then what will happen in 2019? Abegiiiiiiii
ReplyDeleteJonathan will be better strategizing as an elder statesman
ReplyDeleteWho told you that Buhari actually won this election? Remove the underage votes in Katsina, Kano, Jigawa and Kaduna and cancel the Rivers State votes and see who actually had the greater number of votes!!
ReplyDeleteYou are still hurting eh!!! ha ha ha ha ha ha no more looting continues; change has come anyhow just embrace it #bringbackourgirls
DeleteJonathan has seen nothing yet from his PDP mates, they will show him their true colours after May 29 when he is no longer in power and becomes almost an ordinary citizen as them.He has lost respect from majority of them now as he is no longer useful to them as a cash cow that he was as the President in Waste and Embezzlement
ReplyDeleteWhy can't the PDP try to field an Ibo candidate next time? I think their time is due to present a president. Just my opinion
ReplyDeleteGood opinion you have, why a mother northerner to face another northerner? PDP always has a very bad strategy in all its policies that's why the party will always get it wrong and whoever told them that GMB may still contest in 2019?
DeleteThere is no credible Ibo man at the frontline of politics in Nigeria that can be elected as president. Simply because of their greed! and no unity among them when it comes to power and money. They cann't give their support unconditionally to their fellow tribe without thinking of why not me? Why him? Simple case study- google the list of all the senate presidents since 1999 and try to find out why they did not last in that office to justify the evils the Ibos are doing to themselves.
DeleteYou will get an hausa or fulani to contest in 2019,ain't you ashamed of yourselves? You think that hausas are the easterners who doesn't respect brotherhood
ReplyDeleteThese PDP men are day dreamers. I remember when I was in SS2, my father was admonishing me to study so hard so I could pass my papers in one sitting. His reason is that if you can't make your papers while in school, that it will be very difficult to make it from outside school. Jona, please read those lines I have just put up and advice yourself better. Don't listen to them. Who even told them that Buhari will run in 2019. Why is this foolish man bothering himself with 2019? Is he even sure of seeing 2019? Please these old fools should leave this country alone. Let us ask for today and leave tomorrow to God Almighty.
ReplyDeleteThe posters *nonymous 11:11 and 10:30 are precisely the reason why Nigeria struggles to make progress among the comity of nations. Why reduce every discourse to unwarranted tribal sentiments?
ReplyDeleteI agree, anon 9:28. We'll remove the underage voters both on PDP and APC sides, cancel Rivers result (thank God u agree there was no election in Rivers). Check and tell us the result. Mumu like you. You weren't following what happened before and during the elections. Even in the SE and SS region where GEJ won, did you notice that GMB scored higher than he did in 2011? That's an indication that GEJ (your mentor's) incompetence helped GMB to become popular across Nigeria. O.J
ReplyDeletePDP! PDP!! PDP!!! You lost an election. Must every of your member handle the microphone? Is obvious you are not used to defeat. If you like present Buhari's Son. APC did not win because of tribe. Nigerians were tired of corruption etc
