Erhiatake, daughter of former governor of Delta State, Chief James Ibori, was on Sunday declared winner of the Ethiope West Constituency seat in the aftermath of last Sunday’s House of Assembly election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Running on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Erhiatake polled a total of 32,700 votes, compared to the 1,429 recorded by her closest rival- Edirin Ajueshi Ejidiran of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
She received her certificate of return Sunday morning from INEC.
Ms. Ibori, who emerged the PDP candidate on November 29, 2014 during the state primaries, runs the Starlite Hopes Initiative, a non-government organisation (NGO) that provides free ambulance services equipped with vehicles and motorbikes.
The initiative is borne out of her vision of saving lives by providing a network of fully equipped basic life support ambulances and quadbulances.
It is also to provide “counseling on health issues, and preventive measure against disease, treatment for malaria, water-borne diseases and sensitization of the people to maximize community capacity on health service and promoting community development and capacity building through good governance and volunteer work.”
The legislator-elect, expectedly has her work cut out already, going by posts on her facebook page “Vote Erhiatake IBORI,” with most of her friends urging her not to “disappoint your people, so that God’s protection can be upon you.”
Others urged her to continue on the path of love, commitment and transformation her father was associated with during his eight-year tenure as governor of the state between 1999 and 2007. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
