International observers call for cancellation of Rivers result #RiversDecides

International election observers on Sunday called for the cancellation of the Governorship and House of Assembly elections in Rivers.

The leader of African Centre for Leadership Strategies and Development, Mr Humphrey Bekaren, who spoke on behalf of the observers, made the call in Port Harcourt.

He said the observers were shocked that INEC disregarded the widely reported violent irregularities to begin the process of declaring results in the state.

“We request all lovers of democracy to join us in calling for the outright cancellation of the phony election.

“Unless this is done, we would have sown the seed that could eventually grow into providing a shade of fear and death over us,” he said.

According to Bekaren, what happened in Rivers was a far cry from what election should be.
“What we saw did not meet international standard of electioneering, not even the ones set by the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC,’’ he said.

He said there were reported incidents like deliberate delays and diversion of electoral materials, attacks on electoral officers, widespread arson and voter intimidation.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner for Rivers, Mrs Gesila Khan, said INEC cancelled election in centres with reported electoral malpractices.

She said re-run elections took place in six local government areas in the state where electoral malpractices were reported.

    4. Anonymous 6.57am, I don't believed you have even visited any part of the north during election day, or you are out rightly mischievous in your statement. You mean the under aged voting or the 1.9m votes in a state was a product of free and fair election? or simply because the PDP in the north are not shouting, you think they are more democratic than the south?. Please spare us your tainted postulation. The north were voting for their own regardless of the party and the opposition turned a blind eyes as far as their own wins but in the south, they wanted to prove that they can undo each other, and he voice is loudest where APC lost. All these we know and posterity will judge at the appointed time.Presudential election was rigged by the institution set up to conduct it just because of ethnic origin and this was possible because the president was indifferent to it.The governorship election is won by the best rigger, including Lagos and in the north. So stop that holier than thou behaviour and go ad sleep.

  10. I voted in Rivers state, APC shld do the honourable thing and stop looking for war, if Amechi didn't leave Ubima to come and cause confusion in Obio Akpor there wouldn't ve been any loss of life. We love Dakuku but the man backing him has lost the respect of majority of Rivers pple.

  13. This APC will destroy democracy in Nigeria. Anywhere they loose election, they bastardise the process and the system, Why make mockery of international observers by making them talk nonsense. Even in Florida USA during the Bush era, Thumb printed ballot papers were found in oceans. Same Jeb Bush might end up as President in 2016. Rubbish double faced individuals!!!

  14. African Center for Leadership Strategies and Development is a NGO registered with the CAC. How can a Nigerian NGO suddenly become an international observer? Mr Humphrey's LinkedIn profile shows he works in Rivers State Government. This write up has APC propaganda all over it.

People, do your homework before you believe anything these people post. I want change but not this kind of subversive manipulation of public opinion.

  15. The case is settled. Amaechi is just an empty loud mouth. Where is all the boost of delivering Rivers state to APC. He is only lucky that Buhari won at the center. God gives power and its taken away for good, to prove to the world that Amaechi is just an ordinary human being, who should need his people in times like this.

  16. Apc always complain. PDP did not shout where they lost or does that means there were not irregularities? No election is perfect.
Oshiomole and ameachi are examples of noise makers followed by fashiola.
