A National Peace Policy is one of the documents that President Goodluck will hand over to the President-elect, Maj. Gen. Mohammadu Buhari(retd.), Director General of the National Orientation Agency, Mr. Mike Omeri, has said.
In a statement, made available to newsmen on Sunday, Omeri said the National Peace Policy was being mid-wived by stakeholder agencies – the National Institute for Conflict Resolution, NOA, the National Stabilisation Reconstruction Programme of the British Council and partner NGOs.
Omeri said the draft strategy framework for managing conflicts and building peace would soon be submitted to the Federal Executive Council for ratification.
According to him, the successful handling of the anxieties of the general election and the structures put in place during the period require to be institutionalised to serve as a template for peace building in Nigeria.
The draft peace policy, which is expected to be ratified by the FEC before the handover date, is part of the documents which the incoming government will inherit from the Jonathan government.
According to Omeri, details of the draft will be harmonised at a stakeholders’ forum on Tuesday with the Civil Society Legislative Action Committee leading the third sector input into the final document.
He said the government was desirous of putting in place an enduring framework for managing conflict situations especially in a diverse society such as Nigeria. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

Let it be laid I advise with open mindness as I believe if done it will go a long to teach leaders that no position is permanent because majority they carry the vote. If your tenure is right with those who voted you in, then there wll be hope of peace between people and the leaders but reverse be the case then without hesitation the leaders should respect peoples view and step down. We don't want stagnancy again in this country because a word they say is enough for the wise.
