Auto crashes kill 85 during Easter




The Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, has said 85 persons lost their lives, while 463 others sustained various degrees of injuries from about 115 road traffic accidents during the last Easter celebrations.



The Public Education Officer of FRSC, Imoh Etuk, who disclosed this via a statement yesterday in Abuja, said the rate of deaths recorded under the period increased by five percent compared to 2014.
Etuk said the corps also recorded 25 percent reduction in the number of vehicles involved in auto crashes within the period, which stood at 172, in comparison with 230 vehicles in 2014.

He said 13 percent reduction was also recorded in the number of people involved in road traffic crashes in 2015 with 885 persons, against the 2014 figure of 1,012.

He said: “Details of the 2015 fatality figures indicate that while 85 deaths were recorded in 2015, the 2014 Easter patrols posted 80 deaths, translating to five percent increase.”

‘’On injuries, 463 casualties were recorded this year, while 451 persons were injured in 2014, representing three percent increase.”
