The All Progressives Congress on Monday threatened to slam a lawsuit on Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, spokesman for the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan, and the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organisation following their claim of an oath-taking pact between Prof. Yemi Osinbajo and Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
The APC said it would commence legal proceedings unless the PDP presidential campaign body and its spokesperson produced evidence to support their claim.
Fani-Kayode had reportedly claimed that Osinbajo, the APC vice-presidential candidate, and Tinubu had sworn to an oath that the former would resign for the latter to take over as vice president if the APC candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) wins the presidential election.
The threat to sue was contained in a statement by the Director, Media and Publicity of the APC Presidential Campaign Organisation, Malam Garba Shehu.
The APC campaign warned the PDP and Fani-Kayode to either show evidence of the oath-taking or retract the libellous claim within 72 hours or be ready to be charged to a court of law.
The statement partly read, “For the PDP, through Fani-Kayode, to state publicly that an erudite Professor of Law, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and a reputable Pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, swore an oath to vacate his seat as the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for the National Leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, should the party win the forthcoming election is an attack on the hard-won integrity and the reputations of these great Nigerians and APC stalwarts.
“We view this as both slanderous and libellous and therefore will not leave the matter to chance. To this effect, we hereby give Femi Fani-Kayode and the PDP 72 hours to produce evidence or in the alternative issue public apology to Pastor Yemi Osinbajo, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and our party the APC or be prepared to be charged to the court of law.”
In another development, the APC Campaign Organisation said President Goodluck Jonathan had himself to blame for the poor quality of aides and advice that he had benefited from since his days as Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State.
It said that the recent statement credited to the President, that most of the advice that he received from his aides had been worthless 80 per cent of the time, was a clear demonstration that the President lacked sound judgment.
Shehu said, “We in the APC consider it an act of God, especially a few weeks to the March 28, 2015 presidential polls, that President Jonathan who insists on his re-election should make this revelation which to a large extent gives a deep insight into his person and character.”
The APC has also said that it did not wish Fani-Kayode ill health though the opposition party said it was “seriously concerned” about the mental state of the spokesperson for the Jonathan campaign.
The spokesman of the APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, in a statement from Dubai in the United Arab Emirate, on Monday, said Fani-Kayode might have “relapsed into a lifestyle of substance abuse.”
The APC said, “We wish Mr. Fani-Kayode well and call on him to tell Nigerians that he remains clean, despite the massive pressure of work, and that he will not do anything that will see him needing a prolonged reformation in a foreign land.
“It is only an unstable mind and someone who is teetering on the brink that will conjure up the kind of improbable scenarios that have been put out there in quick succession by Mr. Fani-Kayode, and still believe strongly that he is doing the right thing.
“The APC does not harbour the kind of disturbed personalities who abound in the PDP, and who will not hesitate to publicly wish fellow Nigerians ill or dead, as long as they believe such ill-will would endear them to their masters and guarantee their political survival.” Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

APC go to court.
ReplyDeleteSincerely, there is a huge gulf and world of difference between the speeches and mechanics of delivery of the spokespersons of PDP and APC. The erudition, choice of words, urbaneness and professionalism of the guys in APC cannot be ignored. Without being partisan we deserve more from the spokesmen of PDP. Or could this be the reflection of the leadership of these parties? The politicians of these days appear to major on frivolities and debasement of characters. When will the youths witness the eloquence, coloration and glamour of politics of the likes of Dr. K. O. Mbadiwe, Alhaji Waziri Ibrahim, Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe? Enough of this politics with bitterness.
ReplyDeleteAPC and their empty threat, go to court nau! this is nt ur first time of threatning to drag ffk to court but after u will keep silent. we are waiting to see u take him to court.
