Son of former Senegalese president Abdoulaye Wade, Karim Wade sentenced to 6 years imprisonment for corruption

Karim Wade, the extra flamboyant son of former Senegalese president Abdoulaye Wade, has been sentenced to six years in prison for financial impropriety and corruption.

The 46 year old Karim who was nicknamed "Minister of Heaven and Earth" during his tenure as Minister was found guilty of "illicit enrichment".

He went on trial in June 2014 with charges including illegal acquisition of companies and a large amount of real estate while serving in various govt posts during his father's 12 year (2000-2012) presidency.

Karim, who has been in custody since April 2013, denied the charges brought against him.

Strangely, Today's verdict comes just two days after his father, Abdoulaye Wade (pictured left) was chosen by Senegal's once ruling Democratic Party to be its candidate in the next presidential election.
