REVEALED: How President Jonathan begged me thrice to dump APC – Atiku

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has revealed how President Goodluck Jonathan repeatedly appealed to him to dump the All Progressives Congress, APC, and return to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party.

Atiku said the president pleaded with him three times, once during a surprise midnight visit to his house.

The former VP made the revelation in an interview with the Hausa service of the BBC, during which he also explained why he has not been very visible in the campaign rallies of his party’s presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari.

Mr. Abubakar said he turned down the personal request of President Jonathan to return to the PDP on three separate occasions.

He said the last was in Abuja last Friday when the President paid him a surprise midnight visit.

He said on that day, he received speaker Aminu Tambuwal and ex-military leader, Ibrahim Babangida, and they held fruitful discussions.

“In the evening I went to bed early, but at around 12 am, I was told the president was in my sitting room, so I came down and after exchanging pleasantries, I asked him to what I deserved such a visit and he said he just came back to still plead with me for support,” Atiku said.

“He said I need to go back to the PDP because we built the party and we are its founding fathers, and that we needed to go back and rebuild it.

“I told him this is the third time you are asking me to return to the PDP and my answer has always been the same; I am not going back,” Atiku said.

On speculations that the President also suggested an interim government to the former Vice President, Mr. Abubakar said the matter never came up.
“He did not bring it up, and I also did not,” he said. “We just spoke about politics and the security situation in the country.”

    1. Why is he begging for support? Why can't his accomplishments get him votes? Answer! HE IS A FAILURE! He failed us the southerners that voted for him enmass in 2011 and now we are covering our face in shame because we are not proud of him anymore and we are going to vote him out enmass again.

  4. If APC is so great , how is it handling all d THIEVES that ran form PDP to APC? Look like they are being embraced by the THIEVES in APC........Tinubu etc. This is NOT an election. BOTH guys are useless and we need to let Buhari know that he is thought of in that light and has to prove himself....not just to fill the ministries with men in babariga who do not know what they are doing.

    1. For once someone talks with sense here! No APC guys want to condemn all known thief and corrupt guy Tinubu who is a great APC financier. Bad and corrupt PDP leaders that 'failed Nigeria in 16yrs' now APC glorified leaders. Insn't it funny? Well, they've left PDP, now PDP is purged of the failure agents. I'll therefore go with and urge others to vote for PDP to solidify our gains already made.

I think you, the supporters of Joe should be able to tell him the home truth. Since the inception of this democracy he has been lucky. He was commissioner or local govt chairman. He was lucky to be a deputy governor. Greater luck shined on him, his boss was impeached and he became the governor. As an evidence of greater luck still, he was picked as a running mate to Late Yar'adua who became the president with Jonathan becoming the vice president. Luck again, Yaradua died. After so much bickering the doctrine of necessity pushed him to become the president. His luck pushed him further to contest the presidency again in 2011, and majority of Nigerians voted for him without him struggling. And he never needed to spend so much money. All these he achieved on a platter of luck ( or gold rather). Now there is a limit to which LUCK can take someone. The luck in Jonathan's name has taken him thus far including six years as president. We should remember that there are some things that money can't buy. Money can buy some things, it can't buy everything. Money can buy some people, it can't buy all people. Yes, everybody has his own price, but money is not the price for everything. Tell Goodluck that it's his luck that took him to Aso Rock and not his money. It's time to retire from Aso Rock. It's time to return to Otuoke. It's time to go and enjoy life after all.
