Gani Adams, National Coordinator of the Oodua People’s Congress, OPC, a socio-cultural group which has always claimed it protects the interest of Yorubas, has defended his group’s support for President Goodluck Jonathan, saying the President has been nice to him and his group.
The Convener of the Coalition Of Concerned Nigerians, COCN, explained that since his meeting with President, things have changed and he has since remained loyal to him, adding that during their meeting in Aso Rock, the President solicited his support and advised that he should ensure that OPC remained peaceful as they had been all these years.
Speaking on Wednesday morning during a live television programme monitored in Lagos, Adams explained that his relationship with the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, began when President Jonathan emerged as the nation’s leader.
According to him, “when Chief Olusegun Obasanjo was the president for eight years, he never really looked at us. Instead, he was always antagonising us and always looked the other way.
“But when President Jonathan became the president, he called me to Abuja, spoke with me and we had a handshake and ever since, my life has not remained the same and that was how our relationship began.
“He has since been supporting us (OPC) and our activities and that is one of the reasons we have been backing him.”
Responding to allegations that his group collected N9bn from the Presidency alongside other militant groups to unleash mayhem on the streets, Adams stated that “we did not collect N9 billion for doing anything we did. These are mere allegations by people who do not have facts to back up their claims.”
“Everything we are doing is not just for the Yoruba race. We are saying all of these so that we can have a new Nigerian (sic) that we can be proud for (sic).”
Adams was one of the leaders of socio-cultural groups who met Jonathan individually in Lagos recently and there were reports that the President doled out hubdreds of thousands of dollars to the groups and their leaders. Thank u for saying the truthYr life changed since u met the President. I know drum cannot sound out of nothing, somebody must be beating the drum. It is clear you fighting for the Yorubas.
ReplyDelete... and that is why his (Gani Adams') life changed not the lives of the Yorubas is his fight for.
DeleteDo these people think at all before they talkl or they just take us for a ride?
I am seriously worried
Tout
ReplyDeleteGani Adams is inconsequential in yorubaland. GEJ is following the wrong path. The day of reckoning is around the corner.
ReplyDeleteWhat a shame!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat do you expect from an illiterate ethnic warlord? His problem with APC leaders was their unwillingness to bankroll him. Hence Gani and Fasheun have been at each other neck over pipeline contract of GEJ. Let's see how many of your members will follow you on election day.
ReplyDeleteA President that is only "nice to persons" at the expense of a collapsing economy, is certainly not worth my vote.
ReplyDeleteGani adams alatenuje.because he is n7ce to you now you will jeopardise the destiny of nigerians.you and your cohort are a disgrace to yoruba race.
ReplyDeleteWhat else do you expect from an uneducated thug who became a celebrity by merely leading an ethnic militia. The fact that he commands the attention of the President to the extent that he has now become a contractor overseing billions of Naira contract for protection of pipeline show that his life cannot remain the same hence he does not mind whatever happens to his race. Immagine the mayhem unleashed on Lagos by his group the other day under the protection of the police and the military. How then can you assure Nigerians that the election will be fre and fair. We know what Jonathan is up to but he should know that he is already writing his own history irrespective of what the praise singers are drumming to his hearing.
ReplyDeleteI was once one of admirers. I thought you are passionate about Yoruba race. It is now obvious that you actually looking for what to eat, now you are being "nice to", i think should step down as OPC leader, you are no longer worthy. Shame!
ReplyDeleteSee the selfish statement 'President Jonathan has been really nice to me'
ReplyDeleteMortgaging the future of Nigerians for personal gains.
Mtchew!
For a clueless president, there isn't much he can do than to buy in terror groups to help him in intimidating citizens. So he prefers the Tompolos, Asaris, Boyloaf and recently Gani. These are all school dropouts that took to arms, terrorizing people.
ReplyDeleteWho in this south west doesn't know the calamities that this useless group have caused in the past years. Now the president is empowering them to bring more mayhem to their own people just because he's not getting the all the support he expected.....SUBHANALLAH
ReplyDelete.
I don't blame Gani, is only a clueless person that will start throwing money to a militia group during this period.
ReplyDeleteU mean nice to ur pocket. clap for urself
