Military Troops Reclaim 30 Communities From B' Haram In Yobe State

Nigerian troops have continued their onslaught against Boko Haram terrorists as they liberated 30 communities in Yobe State while 73 terrorists were also killed in Borno State.

In a tweet posted on its handle yesterday, the Defence Headquarters said: “Troops are dominating operations in Kukawa, Geri, Gujba in Yobe to rid the terrorists.”

Sources close to epicentre of the battle disclosed that troops have sustained the winning strategy discovered since military authorities requested for a six-week postponement of elections as most of the local governments and communities previously occupied by terrorists in most of the affected states have been liberated.

Last weekend, Nigerian troops routed terrorists from Bara, the headquarters of Gulani Local Government Area of Yobe State and Gulak, the headquarters of Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

73 terrorists killed in Konduga failed attack

Meanwhile, no fewer than 73 terrorists were killed by troops from the 7 Division, Nigerian Army in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State yesterday, sources said.

Konduga is south east and about 40 kilometres from Maiduguri, the state capital. The town has witnessed more than 20 different attacks by terrorists since last year which were repelled by troops.

The terrorists who attempted to invade Konduga had disguised as herdsmen as they moved with many cattle.

They were said to have, however, been sighted by the troops at about 7am yesterday while approaching the town before they reportedly opened fire, targeting troops positioned at different locations in the area.

It was said that “the troops immediately responded by engaging the terrorists who came in large numbers, a situation that led to the killing of 73 of them, while a soldier lost his life in the encounter.”

He added that the encounter which lasted about six hours, started at about 7am till 1pm.

He noted that during the encounter, a Golf Volkswagen car belonging to the insurgents and loaded with Improvised Explosive Devices, IEDs, were destroyed with the occupants by the troops.

Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukokade, confirmed the story but did not give casualty figures.

“Yes it is true that troops killed many terrorists in a failed Konduga attack today,” Olukolade said in a text message to journalists in Maiduguri.
