INEC uncovers 35,000 double registrations in Plateau



At least 35,000 double voter registrations have been uncovered in Plateau State, the state Resident Electoral Commission of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Godwin Kwanga, has said.



Mr. Kwanga made the disclosure in an interview with journalists in Jos, on Thursday at Ladura-Du polling unit of the governor, in Jos south Local Government Area of Plateau state, shortly after he issued Permanent Voter Card, PVCs, to Governor Jonah Jang.

The Plateau REC said most people who are involved in the double registration did so during the recently concluded voter registration in Plateau state.

 INEC has so far distributed 1,508,585 out of the 2,003,046 Permanent Voter Cards in Plateau. This figure represents 89.1 per cent distribution rate.

According to the statistics, Langtang North Local Government has the least PVC distribution rate of 59, 000 representing 73.4 percent.

Meanwhile, Governor Jang on his part has concluded town hall meetings with stakeholders from the Plateau North Senatorial District covering six council areas in preparation for the elections into National Assembly, to represent the zone as Senator in the 8th Assembly.

It was gathered that all government appointee in the PDP led administration of Jonah Jang were mandated to deliver their respective wards during the elections or lose their job.

Also, the All Progressive Congress has begun its door to door campaign in the state with the running mate to the party Presidential candidate, Yemi Osinbajo, visiting Plateau state last Wednesday. Mr. Osinbajo. He had a meeting with religious leaders in the state.
