Governor Amaechi escapes death by whiskers after unknown gunmen attack him in Rivers

The Rivers State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, escaped death by the whiskers in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area as some gunmen suspected to be political thugs fired gunshots at him.

Two members of the All Progressives Congress were said to have been seriously injured during the incident, which happened at about 6pm on Thursday as the governor embarked on a door-to-door ward campaign in the area.

An SMS sent to newsmen through the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. David Iyofor, indicated that the thugs had also set bonfire along the road to prevent the governor from leaving.

The statement added that the thugs suspected to be working for the Peoples Democratic Party in the state, threw bottles, stones and other dangerous objects at the Governor Amaechi and his entourage.

“This evening, gunshots were fired at the Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi at Rumuolumeni, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area by PDP thugs.

“Obio/Akpor is the home of the PDP governorship candidate in the state, Nyesom Wike. The thugs attacked the governor and his entourage with bottles, stones and various dangerous objects. Then gunshots were fired at the governor.

“When the governor was leaving the community, bonfire was set up on the road to prevent him from leaving. More gunshots were fired at his convoy. Amaechi was on door-to-door ward campaign in the state,” Iyofor’s statement read.

Meanwhile, the Greater Together Campaign Organisation, a team in charge of Dakuku Peterside’s governorship campaign, described the attack on the state governor as part of the plan to assassinate chieftains and members of the APC.

    1. The sooner people like you realize that killing in the name of politics does not solve problems the better. Politics is not a do or die affair. The PDP you are supporting today may not favor you tomorrow. Remember how people were calling for Sanusi's head when he fell out with the president? Today is our president not shaking hands and hugging him in public? Politics is a game. Politicians from all parties have only one thing in mind, permanent interests. Who told you and Mr Jonathan that Wike will not join another political party in future? Its only a matter of time. Mark my words.

  3. Well, there are two views to look at this. Considering the kind of noise maker and attention seeker Amaechi is, I don't take his news at face value. First view is that Amaechi orchestrated all these to make some last news before election. Second view is that the incident happened for real. It is interesting, however, that at the peak of elections and tension in Rivers State, Amaechi will go door to door campaign in the strongest opposition zone. What does he really expect? Smiling residents to welcome him? He's just making himself an easy target, he better secure himself because he created and has a lot of enemies, and not just PDP. He doesn't respect elders, royal fathers, youths or anybody. He should know he has personal enemies. Door to door campaign? Hmmh.

    2. Anuofia!!! Quick to abuse others, thus giving away your level of person. Were you one of the shooters since you know so much of what happened? The police boss has dismissed Amaechi team's claim now. So you see, we know Amaechi, don't worry. Lol

  5. This make up story is very interesting. You know Amaechi is now a super human such that gun shot hardly hurt or kill him when it was directed at him in Wike's home LGA. Please APC and Amaechi learn to tell better lies as to win sympathy and not all these little children fantasy story. Somebody on door to door campaign must be on foot and gun shot on him and he was not hurt. Lets add sense to what we want the public to believe because the public are not fools.
