Enyeama set for 100th cap as Super Eagles play Uganda today

Since missing out of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations staged in Equatorial Guinea, the Super Eagles return to the international football scene as they face Uganda at the Akwa Ibom Stadium, Uyo on Wednesday.

The Nigeria Football Federation had to settle for the east African country as a late replacement for South American side Bolivia who pulled out of the friendly owing to security concerns ahead of Nigeria’s presidential elections on Saturday.

Uganda – ranked 74th in the world – face Nigeria for the first time in eight years. The Cranes were triumphant on home soil against the former African champions, beating the Super Eagles 2-1 in an Afcon qualifier in Kampala on June 2, 2007.

Interim coach Daniel Amokachi is expected handle the hosts in this tie as the NFF is set to announce new coach Stephen Keshi before the end of the week.

Meanwhile, captain and goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama will make his 100th appearance in national team colours against the Cranes.

After making his debut 13 years ago, Enyeama will become the second Nigerian ever to reach this landmark after former captain and defender Joseph Yobo.

In-form strike trio of Ahmed Musa, Odion Ighalo and Anthony Ujah will be expected to lead the attack against Milutin Sredojević’s men, while West Bromwich Albion’s Brown Ideye is ruled out owing to injury.

The game holds at 6pm before Amokachi’s men travel to South Africa for their game against Bafana Bafana in Nelspriut on March 29.
