Car bomb hits police station in Libya

A car bomb exploded on Thursday outside a police station in Libya’s capital city of Tripoli, according to a security source.

Blast went off in front of the police station in Dahmani area in central Tripoli and several cars nearby were damaged, a security officer, who declined to disclose his name, told Xinhua.

No casualties were reported and it was not immediately clear who was behind the attack.

Tripoli has fallen into the hands of the Islamist armed alliance Libya Dawn since August and the city is now plagued by assassinations, kidnappings and armed robberies.

Earlier reports in local media suggested that some affiliates of the Islamic State (IS) terror group have infiltrated into the city.

In January, a group of militants attacked Tripoli’s Corinthia Hotel, one of the last hotels still operating in the city, killing nine people, including five foreigners. The IS offshoot “Tripoli Province” claimed the attack.
