Buhari is Nigeria’s next president, says Obasanjo

Former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has predicted that Maj. General Muhammadu Buhari will be elected on 28 March as Nigeria’s new president, to succeed incumbent, Goodluck Jonathan.

At the same time, he dismissed fears of any election annulment as it happened in 1993, under the Babangida administration, when the election of Moshood Kashimawo Abiola was annulled by the military junta.

Obasanjo spoke in Abeokuta, Ogun state yesterday, when he met a group that styles itself, Concerned Citizens of Nigeria.

According to the former Nigerian leader, there will never be a repeat of what happened in the country in 1993 after the Presidential election.'

Obasanjo declared that he has confidence in the All Progressives Congress,APC Presidential candidate, General Muhammed Buhari because he was a trained military officer.

The group called on the former President to intervene in the country’s looming political crisis before matters degenerate.

“We have come to express our deep concern over series of dangerous political miscalculations currently going on under Jonathan administration.

“We are afraid that crisis is seriously looming and it is like another June 12 crisis is on the way and it may be very tragic for the country. We want you to as a matter of urgency intervene into the matter before it is too late sir,” the group opined.

In his response, the former President allayed their anxieties, saying that the 2015 election will never be like the June 1993 election.

“You need not to worry about anything. There can never be any June 12 annulment again. Buhari is not Abiola, he is a trained and highly intelligent soldier.

“Oyegun is not Anenih, Osinbajo is not Kingibe. Jega is not Nwosu, Jonathan is not IBB and this time around, Obasanjo will not support any interim government.
“Obasanjo will rather support a free, fair and credible election.”

  1. You are a foolish statesman, enough of you semi-illiterate military men polluting our democracy. A foolish Jonathan is better for us than a wise Buhari. But mind you Jonathan is the most civilized President Nigeria has had so far,and we know you're jealous of him because he has outdone your government. Just go and wait for your death to come. Your time has come and gone,so don't mess ours up.

    3. Obasanjo is not a fool but you. Military is not in a way difference from Medicine, Accounting, Teaching and the rest; they are all professions. Obj is a statesman and he spoke the minds of well meaning Nigerians. If GEJ truely believes in "FORWARD NIGERIA", he should put all his energies on giving us free, fair and credible elections not muting the ideas of interim government and removal of election umpire.

    8. Obasanjo is smart. He never liked Buhari and Buhari never liked him. He however knows that if he does not mend fences with Buhari and Buhari wins the election, Buhari will go after him to account for the 20billion US dollars he claimed to have spent on electricity without due process and without results. He declared a national power emergency to justify the spending without due process and without approval of the National Assembly and where is the electricity? If Buhari wins, he would have been in trouble without making up with him now. If Jona wins, Obasanjo can handle that. He's very clever.

Since GEJ refused to be his stooge, he hated GEJ and I sincerely don't care if he endorses Buhari or the devil himself, whether he dies or not, OBJ can go to hell for all I care! Jonathan is better for we the GEJ's supporters!

    3. There are thousand and one reasons why Jonathan will loose woefully in this this election.: 1. He is a misfit in department of his life; 2. he is an ethnic bigot and has polarized the country along ethnic and religious lines; 3. he is damn too selfish and wants every thing to his advantage, he has messed up the military as it stands today, we don't have a united strong military as we used to have in the last ten years; 4.Under Jonathan's watch, Nigeria has drifted- mediocrity, hypocrisy, propaganda, impunity which is the civilian version of dictatorship, lies,insecurity,unemployment,underdevelopment,terr-or and corruption are choking the country to death. As it stands, the country sincerely needs someone who is more experienced with depth of military background and who should also be a disciplinarian with high level of integrity and who abhors corruption in its entirety to handle the affairs of this once glorious country otherwise, Nigeria will collapse on all of us.Without mincing words, we concur with former President Obasanjo on his frank talk that Buhari is the next President. #BUHARI/OSINBAJO/APC = MOVING FORWARD

    4. It seems you are very myopic, all the things you listed above for GEJ is what the whole world press is saying about Buhari. I will advise you to go and read your history very well. When Buhari took power he jailed Igbo Vice President but kept Shagari under house arrest. Again Nigeria has never been one country. We are all tribalist not Nigerians. Obasanjo is making himself very irrelevant by talking on issues that do not demand elder statesman he claims to be to talk about which is very pity.

  5. Patience said it is only when someone fails a class that he repeats. But, people are allowed to come back and try again after a while to retry. Assuming the General failed 30 years ago, that long enough to have understood why he failed.
GEJ has failed, and is still failing. He can come back in 30 years after cooling off in Otuoke.
If after 30 years the general still commands this level of followership, then he definitely has got something to offer.

  26. When the spirit of God departed from King Saul and moved into the anointed King David, Saul and his cohort refused to give up. Even when Saul got filled with evil spirit, his benefactors seemed to prefer him to anyone else until his cup got filled and he was shamefully wasted. Let those clamouring for Buhari or GEJ simply get their PVC and make sure that they come and vote for the candidate of their choice. Let the election be free and fair and let the winner take it. Let quarrels cease among us forthwith please.

    1. Fact!!! Most people see and never think of what they see, they read but don't understand. Everything is in the bible which people kno but never realise it's happening again. Saul was chosen by God so as David chosen to succeed him.
It will only get worse for Saul if he so choose to stay by for force. Then u will kno that God's plan is far different from the way man plan. We shall soon see.

    - Class and Taste-wise....you can tell from the class of their WIVES....Hajia AISHA buhari will be the best first lady we've ever had in this country....everytime i hear patience open that her mouth talking crap on tv....i get disappointed.....
    - Healthwise....Obasanjo ruled this country when he was 72...and is still playing football at 78 and intellectually sound to be writing and publishing books...Buhari can do desame...cos military men have undergone enough training to keep them more fit than a bloody civillian.....and buhari is the main MAN that fits the fight against corruption NOW and his military experience will be a plus in the fight against insurgency and will fully tackle the issue of insecurity....simple as A-P-C....we march for BUHAR
