The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday confirmed Musiliu Obanikoro as a federal minister, appointed by President Goodluck Jonathan, brushing aside allegations that Mr. Obanikoro played a key role in election fraud in Ekiti State.
Mr. Obanikoro was named recently in a leaked tape as a principal actor in the state’s governorship election rigging in 2014, sparking national outrage.
The Nigerian government has refused to investigate the claims.
The Senate approved Mr. Obanikoro’s nomination as a minister, Wednesday, after repeated deferments, despite protests from senators from Lagos State, Mr. Obanikoro’s home state, and other opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, who had vowed to stop the clearance over the Ekiti scandal.
As a former senator himself, the Senate allowed Mr. Obanikoro to “take a bow and go”, without answering questions, a privilege reserved for former federal lawmakers.
APC lawmakers responded by walking out of the session in protest.
Obanikoro however took to his Twitter page to thank the Senate for 'their kind support'

Corruption at work, period.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you expect from a clueless GEJ govt!!!
ReplyDeleteNigeria is truly a foolish country and a disgrace to itself. Jonathan fully sanctions corruption and thrives on it. The assembly of PDP looters called the Senate has no shame and does not care if the country goes to hell. Nigerians must take their country back before it's too late.
ReplyDeleteHmmm criminal became minister again how do we continued like that, hold the position until Baba came... Sai Baba Buhari all this criminal will wiped out insha Allah
ReplyDeleteVery sad moment. That is why corrupt men will continue to rule Nigeria. Even after Obanikoro accepted that the meeting was held before the election but was not a plan to rig, an investigation should have been carried out. Instead he took a bow and is now a federal minister. Oh! Nigeria! Why have thou decended so low in morals and accountability.
ReplyDeleteAm dissapointrd by David Mark the senate president. This particular goverment is killing the the desiny if this great country NIGERIA.Enough of all these rubish politics of president Jonathan.Fellow nigerians please lets rescue Nigeria fron these evil people.Obanikoro that should ne in prison forhis involvement in the Ekiti saga is been rewarded by the man that sent him president Jonathan.
ReplyDeleteBetter for Nigeria congratulation my good minister
ReplyDeleteDon't worry ur children and children children will spit on u watch it.
DeleteThis is the clearest evidence that our leaders are morally bankrupt and recklessly insensitive to the sensibilities of Nigerians. They have been bribed by GEJ using humongous proceeds of treasury looting in the last six years. This makes the need for Nigerians to reject PDP wholesale at the poles an absolute necessity. The need for change is very compelling.
ReplyDeleteold wyne in old botle, jonathan style of leadership. dts y JONA MUST GO. He lack simple patriotism he will never be our president again by God willing.
ReplyDeleteThese people must be removed either peacefully or forcefully.
ReplyDeleteNigeria is finished.
ReplyDeleteVote GEJ vote corruption, vote GMB vote change.
ReplyDeleteJona why? Even when we from the south try to defend and still support you, you guys in PDP will just commit another blunder. This is really bad. I know this is just to compensate Obanikoro for his role in the Ekiti Election saga. This move is more than dangerous. You are just courageously celebrating and promoting curruption in Nigeria. Obasanjo saw to it that Alamesiya was jailed, you celebrated him, Obasanjo jailed Bode George, you came and celebrated him. What is actually wrong with you? Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, you have set a bad precedence in Nigeria as the only president who condones, promotes and celebrates corruption in the histry of Nigeria. Quiet unfortunate we are all from the southern part of the country. Truly you have failed us.
ReplyDeleteIf Nigeria is finished better leave our country
ReplyDeleteU are a fool

ReplyDeleteThe 5k that they are giving you will soon stop and your life will be worst than former. Just keep on deceiving yourself.
Deletemost of us are corrupt so lets stop critizing our leaders, anti-corruption begins with you.
ReplyDeleteMUMU keep on posting as many as possible your ignorance is obvious.
Deletea boy bought something of 50naira and gave the woman 100naira, the woman unknowly gave the boy 950naira. The boy saw it and went without returning the excess change. That is corruption. Corruption is corruption. No big no small. Most of us in our little way might be corrupt but please dont stop development. GEJ is developing the country. America is so corrupt that the police can set you up and arrest you for pesonal reason. So corruption is everywhere. Lets pray for our leaders.
ReplyDeleteThe confirmation is a scandal in itself and a desecration of the hallow chamber. May the almighty God salvage our country and give us leaders with the right conscience.
ReplyDeleteWhen you see wise people comment on this platform you can't but appreciate our eagerness for better society but still some fools are still within our midst that their comment really gives insight of their foolishness. It has really becomes imperative that change we must.
ReplyDeleteAm sure u sent this comment from prison. Birds if a kind.
ReplyDeleteIt is important that we Nigeriaans should endeavor to develop the political culture of supporting our leaders based on facts not trivial issues. Indeed, it is a public fact that corruption is a major barrier to our national development. Again, Transparency International corruption index for 2014 indicated that the country is deeply into corruption. So if you are criticizing my comment on corruption holding swell in nigeria provide a better fact not the psychochological brain-washing of PDP government.
ReplyDeleteYou have posted the best comment so far
DeleteI will say that this blog is not impartial and fair in the Nation's political affair. True Jornalism is being betrayed. Is there any true evidence that these assertion about him (Obani) is true?? Prove it first and stop political propagander.
