Alhaji Lateef Jakande, a former Lagos State Governor, on Saturday urged Nigerians to accept the winner of the Presidential election as God’s choice for the country.
Jakande told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos after he was accredited for the Presidential and National Assembly elections in Ilupeju, Lagos that Nigerians should consider the day a crucial one.
He urged them to ensure that they performed their civic rights by voting to choose the leader of their choice.
“I urge my friends and colleagues to do everything right this day.
“I want everyone to know that Nigeria is greater than all of us and we must do everything to protect it,” Jakande said.
He appealed to Nigerians to protect the image of the country in the course of carrying out their civic responsibility.
“I plead with Nigerians not to create any situation that would threaten Nigeria’s existence,” Jakande said.
Meanwhile, when NAN visited the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, no fewer than 200 passengers were stranded as movement was restricted for the elections.
A passenger, Mrs Esther Duke, who arrived from London in the early hours
of Saturday, said that she was aware of the election.
Duke said that she came into the country early so that she would participate in the elections.
She, however, said that her brother who should pick her up could not make it to the airport because of the movement restriction.
She urged the INEC to also find a way of creating a voting centre at
the airport in subsequent elections to enable passengers to have the opportunity of casting their votes.
Another, Mr Kehinde Ajayi, who is tavelling to London, said he was at the airport since 8 a.m. to travel by 11p.m.
Ajayi noted that he was going out of Nigeria to avoid any problem that could arise after the result of the elections would have been announced.
Another passenger, who did not give his name, said that the delay in receiving his visa made him be at the airport.
He said that he missed his flight on getting to the airport and he was stuck.
NAN reports that all the airlines’ counters were not operating as few intending passengers were seen sitting on the floor while others were sleeping.
