Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola has revealed that 2,123 policemen provided security for President Goodluck Jonathan while armed robbers raided a bank in Lekki, Lagos last week.
Fashola, who spoke at the Agricultural Food Value Chain held in Agege area of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria on Tuesday said when the president came to Lagos last Thursday, while citizens were being robbed, the president was protected by 2, 123 security personnel.
“Let me be very clear, the president is entitled to every protection, he’s our president, but the question to ask is that; when you were being traumatised yesterday, where were these 2,123 men?
Because you are also entitled to be protected. The reason why the president gets all that protection is so that he can protect all of us,” he said.
The governor also decried Monday’s protest march for Jonathan in Lagos by members of the Oodua Peoples Congress, OPC and other pro-Jonathan groups in which the protesters terrorised Lagosians while brandishing dangerous weapons.
“Yesterday, they also showed the difference between us when the supporters of the PDP and President Jonathan came out. You know on 7th of March this year, just about a week ago, the APC held a solidarity rally in Lagos. Did anybody attack you on that day? So, yesterday, they held their own, but what I heard, because I received telephone calls and text messages from residents who explained to me, I received emails.
“I am sorry for the pain and trauma they put you through because residents continuously complained yesterday that they were traumatised by those people who supposedly were carrying out a rally in support of the president and in support of their gubernatorial candidate, just kidding.
“So instead of canvassing for your votes and showing you why their service record is better, they were showing you knives, cutlass and dangerous weapons. Some residents phoned to say that they were banging on their cars. Let me remind all of us, that the work of a party and a government is to protect citizens and not to terrorize them,” he stated.
Fashola said for those who still said that they did not know what the issues in these elections were, Monday’s event brought one issue sharply in focus, which he said was the issue of security.
He stated that the peace and safety that “all of you have enjoyed for eight years is now at risk. You have seen the kind of people who support the other party on Monday, you have seen the kind of people who support their presidential and gubernatorial candidate, those are the people that you will see around them. Monday’s experience, may God forbid it, would be what you would experience till 2019.
“Unless you come out massively on March 28 and on April 11, that is the only way that God would forbid that kind of thing from continuing in Lagos. It is your vote that would change it. A vote for General Buhari would put to end this kind of abuse of state power. A vote for Ambode will continue the security that we have built and protected you for the past eight years. oh what a wonderful governor Lagos State has. Tunde as use to call you, God is our strength and will continue to be. However, if it were correct that 2, 123 police men and women were busy securing Mrs. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and Mr. Dame Patience Jonathan, then there is a fundamental problem with our institutions. Perhaps, 28th March will determine if Mrs. Jonathan Goodluck will continue to rule Nigeria. Don't worry, we have seen 99 out of 100, only 1 is left. That 1 we shall see on the 28th if truly Mrs. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan wants the election to hold. Anuofia Goodluck. We gave you a whole solid years and you just blew it off, you wasted our hope and trust and you must pay for it.
ReplyDeleteHow many policemen protected you and your oga? You are very hopeless and stupid. Your SAN badge should be retrieved from you.
ReplyDelete:)
DeleteI think our Governor made a good point and articulated his argument well.
There seems to be a problem with the strategy for securing VIPs in Nigeria. For the VIP its all a game of numbers, the more policemen lining the routes the better protected they feel.
The question for me is that since the LASG has noticed that the President seems to gather nearly all the Policemen in Lagos, should he not have pushed for the deployment of other security agencies to fill in the gaps left by the policemen on duty.

Your foolishness is legendary. You are the one that is hopeless. A serious minded person is worried about your bleak future and you are here cursing him. O ni jere. Omo ale.
DeleteFashola can only deceive uninformed minds! There are standard retinue of security operatives that escorts and gives domicile protection to the president. Mind you the day of the incident wasn't the first time that the president was in Lagos! There are marine policemen, what happened to them! The robbers exited via water ways! You boasted severally on your ability to protect the citzens, you boasted on purchasing police boats! Where were they? Was the boats equally used at the Marina house of the president! When it goes well you take the credit! When it goes wrong everybody blames the president! It takes a big man to accept his faults! You've made yourself a laughing stock and a liliputian with all your blame game talks! Live up to your responsibility and stop politicking with people's misfortune... you failed them! Suck it up and own up!
ReplyDeleteAs foolish as his statement, are we using state police in Nigeria? Is it not FG that control the police so that means fashola has little to do on police matter.
DeleteI dont think you live in Nigeria or may be you allow your personal hatred for a dedicated and a performing Governor Fashola to overshadow your senses.
DeleteEven a blind man knows that whenever GEJ visits Lagos, policemen are always dispatched in thousands to man every route rightly from Airport to his destination and this time he spent almost two weeks shuttling between Lagos and other Yoruba States.
Fashiola is only playing politics. APC sent those people to cause mayhem so that they would blame PDP
DeleteFashola speaks with facts and figures. Where was the notorious Mbu when the robbers came? Low lives.
ReplyDeleteHmm..Fashola stop stoopn so low of urself..how can u make this kind of statement..is this de first time robbers robbed in lag?. U can now fish the robbers out of their hiding since de president has gone bk..
ReplyDeleteSAN,you have spoken well can you image mbu deploy 2 123 cops to protect 2 subjects when millions of citizen are in state of insecurity.is that the kind of government you want for continueity.GEJ have done well then no need of begging n forcing people to vote for them.dere is God ooo
ReplyDeleteDe police were bizy protecting Jonathan nd so wat?ar u nt d chief security officer of ur state again?God bless Nigeria
ReplyDeleteDear Governor do not presume we are stupid! It's suddenly the president's fault? What about all the kidnapping, is this the first time robbers have unleashed Mayhem? Please clean up your house and man up and take responsibility!
ReplyDeleteMr Fash go and hide your head in shame, this is too low coming from you, what nonsense
ReplyDeleteImagine the nonsense, when some pple shld be resigning there jobs you are talking rubbish, if GEJ was from your party will you say such? That's the problem with this country everybody blames somebody else for there lapses. We just want to score cheap political point with every tragedy, na wah oh!
ReplyDeleteI used to respect Fashola's hard work and intelligence but this his ascribing the bank robbery to policemen guarding the President is the most stupid thing I have heard in recent times
ReplyDeletePolitics is funny and if care is not taken we shall withdraw the SAN from him
It is unfortunate that this rubbish is coming from a governor of state. Fashola you should hide your head in shame. You have lost many peoples respect. How can you be talking like illiterate because of politics. It is sad!
ReplyDeleteGod bless you Fashola, if only states had their police, this sort of nonsense wouldn't be in place.
ReplyDeleteFashola, how low can you place yourself with your comments? I do not support your ideas because you were never elected, you are SELECTED.
ReplyDeleteThis Fashola is becoming something else o. He tells so much lies these days. Is he having mental problems. The white in his hair are becoming so much these days. I think he need to visit the syc hospital as soon as possible. As a chief security officer of lagos state you are blaming the president for robbery in your state then you have plans to kill the president and destroy him. Thank God you are revealing yourself publicly. This robbery case should be investigated. This man fashola might be involve in this as a chief security officer.
ReplyDeleteWhen governor Babangida Aliyu of Niger state said that for you to be a successful politician in Nigeria you should know how to tell lies, I have listen carefully to him in order to figure out when he lies but I have not succeeded in catching him telling lies. No doubt Babangida Aliyu is perfect in telling lies that cannot be detected. But the reverse is the case of the Lagos state governor Fashola. When Fashola speaks in order to get political popularity and run down his opponents, the lies he tells are as obvious and conspicuous as the bright noon day sunlight that is directly overhead. I am so sorry for Fashola to have desecrated the prestigious title of SAN and instead of him to demonstrate how people of his own kind can bring sanctity into the Nigerian politics he has allowed the un-certificated people like Tinubu and Buhari to use him to use him to their political advantage and in doing so he has thrown caution to the wind and goes about lying any how. It is only the non-informed people that will believe Fashola that GEJ was protetected by 2123 security men in Lagos. I, David hereby refused to be deceived by Fashola.
ReplyDeleteeverybody is correct. The president 1st of all needs to be protected(i don't like his performance anyway), the citizens needs to be protected also. But the problem is with our security agents. when you have this kind of situation you deploy from near by states. that way there will be little or no shortfall in security distribution and one state does not release its whole force on one assignment. criminals knows too that the higher the number of force men allocated to such assignment the more likely their operations will be successful. And these kind of visits presents such.it should be a lesson for our security outfits.
ReplyDeleteFashola is an idiot for making that statement.
ReplyDeletePlease guys, always read and try to understand what people are saying before making comments or abusing them. The governor did not blame GEJ neither did he condemn the security arrangement made for him, but his question was where were those 2,123 policemen when that incident happened in Lekki?
ReplyDeleteTruly speaking, look at their entourage, including Fashola and others, at least 25 to 30 policemen are always on standby for them. but in our streets, LGA's how many policemen are there? How many of them are on duty at a point in time? How armed are those ones on duty to combat any crime?
Secondly, let us look at their properties, how many policemen are always on that spot to guide their houses, even when they are not there! if these number of policemen can be deployed to guard 50 streets in any locality, the security story will change!
My friend shut up, that is a very stupid comment to make, ur Govt is bcoming stupid because of this election. He lack respect.
ReplyDeleteFashola behaves like a stack illiterate by making this type of statement . meaning he is out of sense.that why we say APC instead of fixing our problems , they try to find who to apportion blame to. Nigerians are disappointed by You Fashola a chief security of Lagos state . it therefore means that a secondary school student could perform better than Fashola . whose have develop Brain drain like Buhari , you all are failures.GEJ is a tested Leader of our Generation stop telling fake lies against him Nigerians wants him and PDP most b/cos APC have nothing to change for but Lairs like lai Mohammed.
ReplyDeleteAre you guys kidding me??? did e all read through or we are just making abusive comments??? why have we not all spoken about the rally of Oodua's peoples congress on monday in Lagos and that of MASSOB in Enugu, Anambra state, ETC.who gave them guns??? where were the police force when they were doing the rally?? why where they not arrested??? lets stop all this APC and PDP rubbish and be clinical in our thinking....Anarchy is befalling this country soon and we will all pay whether you support PDP or APC...goosh cant believe that Nigerians are still thinking this way.
