Ugly, violent scenes at AFCON Semi-final as Equatorial Guinea fans attack Ghanaians for beating them 3-0

The Africa Cup of Nations semi-final between Ghana and Equatorial Guinea has been suspended in the 83rd minute following violence between rival sets of fans.

The host nation were trailing 3-0 following goals from Jordan Ayew, Wakaso Mubarak and Andre Ayew when supporters of the host nation began hurling bottles into the visiting support.

As a result, Ghana fans ran down to the bottom of the stand and congregated behind one of the goals for their own safety, leading the referee to suspend the game.

Equatorial Guinea fans then resorted to throwing objects on to the pitch towards match officials, before a helicopter flew over the home support in a bid to halt the violence.

That intervention led scores of supporters to leave the stadium, with bottles strewn across the pitch as the evening descended into disarray.

Police also resorted to the use of tear gas as they tried to disperse the mass crowd of offending supporters, before play eventually resumed over 30 minutes after the original stoppage.

The game commenced with 90 minutes set on the clock, as Ghana saw out the final three minutes of injury-time to seal a 3-0 win and a place in the final of the Africa Cup of Nations.
