A Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday sentenced a 30-year-old polytechnic student, Nwokeoma Adimoha, to six months imprisonment for dealing in illicit drug.
The convict, a resident of Satellite Town in Lagos State, was arraigned by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on a charge of dealing in illicit drug.
He pleaded guilty to the offence.
Justice Mohammed Idris sentenced him to the prison term beginning from the date of his arrest following his plea.
“Having pleaded guilty to the charge before this honourable court, the accused is hereby convicted as charged.
“He is, accordingly, sentenced to six months imprisonment, which term shall start running from the date of his arrest.
“The drug exhibits are to be returned to the office of the NDLEA for destruction,” he said.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Mr. Orji Kalu, had told the court that the convict committed the offence on October 10, 2014.
Kalu said the accused was arrested by a surveillance team of the NDLEA in an uncompleted building in Satellite Town.
He said that about 2.40 kilogrammes of Indian hemp was recovered from the accused who was said to be a dealer in the illicit drug.
Kalu said that the offence contravened Section 11 (c) of the NDLEA Act, 2004.
