About 12 soldiers from the 31 Artillery Brigade of the Nigeria Army, Minna, on Tuesday invaded the Hill Top Model Secondary School in the state capital, holding teachers and students hostage and disrupting academic activities for hours.
Sources gathered that the officers and men, who stormed the school premises in a Mitsubishi Hilux van, marked 31 AB 035 NA, were allegedly armed with AK 47 riffles.
It was gathered that the soldiers came on the invitation of one Umar Alhassan, a civilian, who happens to be a friend of one of the military men.
A teacher in the school, Mr Mohammed Mamud, told newsmen that at about 8am, Alhassan, wearing military fatigue, drove into the school in a black Nissan Jeep with number plate Niger AA 551 KUG.
Mamud said Alhassan came on the invitation of one Farida Mustapha, a Senior Secondary student of the school, who was punished by a teacher over an offence.
He explained that the teacher was teaching Mustapha’s class when one of the students used an abusive language.
He added that when none of the students owned up as the culprits, the teacher punished the whole class, including Mustapha.
The teacher said Alhassan came to the school to threaten the teacher for melting out punishment to the class, including Mustapha.
The teracher could not however explain the relationship between the student and the leader of the invading soldiers.
The Principal of the school, Mr Bala Mohammed, said, “Umar Alhassan drove into the school in a reckless way. We thank God that the students were not on break, else he would have knocked one of them down.
“I cannot talk to journalists now until I get permission from the state commissioner for education Alhaji Danladi Abdulmeed.
