Senate postpones screening, confirmation of ministerial nominees

The Senate on Wednesday, shifted the screening and confirmation of eight ministerial nominees till next Tuesday.

The postponement was announced two hours after all the ministerial nominees, including Senators Musiliu Obanikoro, Patricia Akwashiki and Joel Danlami Ikenya, among others, were already in the senate wing of the National Asssembly premises waiting to be invited to the chamber.

Obanikoro told our correspondent after the announcement that the postponement was due to the debate on the Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper already slated in the order paper.

He said all the nominees would appear again before the senate next week as rescheduled.

However, Spokesperson for the opposition All Progressives Congress, Senator Babafemi Ojudu, said there were two petitions against Obanikoro’s nomination.

The petitions, according to him, had been forwarded to Senate President David Mark.

The petition dated Thursday, February 12, which was submitted through Ojudu and Senator Gbenga Ashafa highlighted Obanikoro’s alleged role in the August 2014 Ekiti governorship poll.

It also detailed the use of armed soldiers to stop the Ilubirin Housing Project in Lagos, among others.

Ojudu also said that since there was a suit against Obanikoro in a Lagos court vide No: ID/433GCN/14, it would be prejudicial for the Senate to screen and confirm him alongside other ministerial nominees.

He said, “There’s a court case against Obanikoro in Lagos and that case is coming up for hearing March 6. Should the Senate go ahead to screen Obanikoro next Tuesday, it means the Senate has prejudiced the case.

“That would be illegal because the tradition and the rule is that if there is a case before the court, the matter should not be entertained.

“This case is already before the Judiciary and it has to be with whether he’s fit and proper person, and whether he is qualified to hold public office.

“Even the case of whether he has dual citizenship is not for the Senate to determine. Bedsides, this case is not even about that. Whatever the matter is, there is a subsisting case against Obanikoro before a court.

  1. This man Koro or Obanikoro who was alleged to be born in the 1950's or 1960's and who claims to be a citizen of Nigeria or America is too controversial to behold. Moreso, there have been calls in recent time by eminent Nigerians for investigation of his alleged involvement in the Ekiti election scandal. And now, some court cases involving him are awaiting hearing. Haaaba, all these issues are too weighty to be ignored by any well meaning Nigerian or group. We pray the counsel of God will prevail in the consideration of this nomination.

  2. And our CiC comes out to tell Nigerians that he respects Nigerians. This is nothing but a big fat joke.

He also claims he respect rule of law, but this demonstrates clearly that our CiC is nothing but a reprobate and hypocrite. Please let us ensure we all understand the clear meaning of a reprobate because we are obviously now a laughing stock of the whole wide world base on how the CiC has tried to personally discredit the Ekitigate Tape and the evidences.

Our CiC now claims he underestimated Boko Haram, when what he actually wanted to do was allowed Boko Haram run amok and thus polarize Nigeria along Religious lines and make Nigerian Christians to hate the name GMB and even for Nigerian to dread the idea of a Muslim becoming their President.

As God will have it, the scheme backfired on our CiC. Please let us be realistic, why should we forget the warnings of Baba OBJ back then to our CiC when the Chibok girls were kidnapped. All the words of this elder statesman has come to pass. The Chibok Girls unfortunately for us can not be whole again they can never be considered as Girls ever again. The Chibok Girls unfortunately for us should all have been raped by now and thus married out or even sold. Some of the poor Girls may have also been infected with HIV.

Now that CiC sees he cannot win on religious ground, he says Boko Haram will be cleared in six weeks. Of course that is inline with the statements of GMB and every other sane Nigerian who wonders why Boko Haram should have been allowed to exist this long in the first place.

One wonders what the CiC would have done if his own daughter was kidnapped along with the Chibok Girls more that 300 days ago, would he have allowed Boko Haram exist past one week?

Our CiC confesses God on one hand and one the other hand behaves as if this same God never exist at all.

Our CiC on one hand claims he believes in the power of God and that God rules in the affairs of all men and on the other demonstrates that God laws of fairness, honesty and integrity should never be considered or bothered with at all.

In order words our CiC is like the biblical fool that says in his heart that there is no God.

However, we Nigerians have a message for our dear CiC, dia ris God ooooo.......

    1. Heya!! Sorry I feel your pulse. But you too yab our CiC as if you think say that one go work. He is not connected to the people. He thinks all Nigerians are blind and corrupt. His campaign chairman has case in court. Fayose, his boy, get case too. The worst one na Koro that he suppose hide because of Ekiti case, he is insulting Nigerians by presenting him as minister at this injury time. GEJ can gain more political score if he for once pretend to be against the bad boys in his team. We Nigerians are more than them. Unless he does not need our votes and is prepared to retire to do something else.
