President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday evening met with some market women in Lagos State as part of his consultations in the South-West ahead of the rescheduled general elections.
The leaders of the market women groups called Iyalojas were led to the meeting held inside the State House, Marina, by Hajia Aminat Hussein.
Jonathan told members of the delegation to vote for the Peoples Democratic Party at all levels during the elections.
He said PDP administrations in the state and at the federal level would provide an enabling environment for them to ply their trade.
The President described the next polls as the final struggle and time for them to use their strength to achieve victory.
He said, “Our victory at the polls will free all Lagos traders from oppression. You need to be free. We will remove Lagos from bondage.
“I have listened to you. You have been carrying the PDP flag. You have been humiliated but you still marched on.
“Thank you for working hard for PDP. This is the final struggle and time for us to use all our strength to achieve victory.”
Earlier, Hussein told the President that the Lagos State Government had been harassing them for supporting the PDP since its inception.
She said in spite of the attempts to buy over many of the market women by the All Progressives Congress, the women would mobilise their members across the country to ensure victory for Jonathan.
“We are promising you that you will not lose in Lagos State,” she said.
Former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, who accompanied the group, said, “These women are more concerned about the reality than news in the social media. APC will be shocked on election days.” Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
