The Presidency has expressed worries over the continuous attacks on the convoy of President Goodluck Jonathan in the Northern part of the country.
It said such acts were dangerous and needed to be checked.
Special Adviser to the President on Inter-Party Affairs, Ben Obi, told newsmen on Tuesday evening in Abuja that the repeated cases of attacks on the Jonathan’s campaign train were highly condemnable.
“It is only an unpatriotic citizen that will not condemn such acts. It calls for outright condemnation; it calls for serious caution, because it is really a dangerous trend,” Obi said.
“The President’s convoy should not be attacked anywhere in the country, be it village or city. It is condemnable for the President to be attacked. The President has shown full commitment to the Abuja Peace Accord and will continue to uphold the rules and principles surrounding peaceful elections,” he said.
Also, the Director-General of the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution, Prof. Oshita Oshita, said the recently-constituted National Peace Committee on 2015 Elections would serve as a moral force to the Nigerian constitution and the Electoral Act.
“The peace committee will act like a moral force to the constitution, it will be a moral force to the Electoral Act and to existing laws against electoral violence,” he stated.
Jonathan’s campaign convoy had been attacked in Katsina and Bauchi states.
A bomb also went off near the PDP campaign rally in Gombe minutes after the President departed from the venue. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
